Honda Releases Flood Gates on 2013 Accord Info
American Honda Motor Co., the North American arm of Honda Cars has finally released a flood gate of images and information about the 2013 Accord. The biggest news is a reduction in both length and wheelbase in the 2013 model compared to the outgoing one. Other than that, the Accord is slated to get Honda's new-generation "Earth Dreams" engines available in two configurations: a 2.4-liter inline-4 and a 3.5-liter V6.
The 2.4-liter 4-cylinder Accord develops 185 horsepower (189 for the Sport model) while the 3.5-liter V6 now has 278 horsepower. These figures are an improvement over the 2012 model by gaining 8 horsepower and 7 horsepower respectively. Although it must be noted that the new 2.4-liter engine actually develops slightly less torque than before. The big news is that the 2.4-liter model shifts from a regular 5-speed automatic to a new Continuously Variable Transmission or CVT, whereas the V6 model continues with a 5-speed automatic. The 2.4-liter model also benefits from direct injection technology.
In addition to these engines, Honda is also set to debut a new 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with a plug-in hybrid system. This will be called the Accord PHEV Sedan. This hybrid will also serve as the basis for a more conventional hybrid version of the Accord which will join the line-up soon thereafter.
From the outside, the Accord now gains available LED projector headlights as well as LED daytime running lights which should improve visibility. And underneath, the Accord moves from its complex (yet sought-after) Double Wishbone front suspension to simpler MacPherson Struts. However, Honda assures that the new Accord will still provide a superior ride and handling with reduced interior noise, harshness, and vibration.
Inside, the new Accord boasts of available technology such as USB/iPod integration, a rear parking camera, and the EcoAssist driving system. Of course, the prerequisite stuff like dual-zone climate control are still available options.
