Round 4 of 2012 Lateral Drift Championship Series


Last September 8, 2012, the Round 4 of the Hyundai Lateral Drift (LD) Championship Series was held at the Quirino Grand Stand, Manila City. The grandstand was not only transformed to a replica of a Philippine inauguration event but also the drift series happening at the same time together with the launch of the all-new 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe.

As the drifters drifted to be qualified for the top 16 of pro’s and amateur series, Hyundai Asia Resource Inc. was ready to unveil to the public the new 2012 Hyundai Genesis. Organizers and the spectators were privileged by the presence of President and CEO Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo who graced the occasion. The public was treated to a show of drift action using the 2012 Hyundai Genesis in sideways moves.

Lateral Drift Drivers Gio Rodriguez, Atoy Llave, and 5th time LD Champion Alex Perez put on a show for the fans to remember. Doing power slides, 360’s, the Genesis was put to test as this drivers max out its power and capabilities during the event. This shows how tough this Korean sports car truly is, like that out of the box where you can drift your way to the streets. Atoy Llave the drifter who drives and represents the official entry of Hyundai in the Lateral Drift Championships finished the show burning out the tires of his Hyundai Genesis.

The new Hyundai Genesis comes in 2.0L 6 speed manual and 3.8L Automatic 8 speed transmission. The 2.0L has a twin-scroll turbo boosting its engine horse power to 260hp compared to the predecessor of 210hp. The new Twin-Scroll Turbocharger that recovers more energy from the exhaust than a single-scroll design and produces a higher power output.  The 3.8-liter V6 Lambda RS engine unleashes 303 hp of pure power and outstanding acceleration match with the new 8-Speed Automatic Transmission with paddle shifts, giving youbetter fuel efficiency at the engines optimal range.

Round 4 continues as the Amateur and Pros made a parade to the grandstand to show their mad skills of drifting. As the sun set, more excitement and more action were experienced. Especially with the tandems run that amazed the fans as they witnessed 2 cars drift side by side and battle for the top prize.

In the amateur division Tintin David battled with Rad Albano for 3rd place. As Albano drifted finer line he took 3rd place and David Feliciano ends up in 4th. The Battle for 1st and 2nd with Jet Mathay and Jesus Salas showed awesome level of pro skills already. Jet Mathay sneak pass Salas again and taking home 1st place.

In the Pro division it was intense, as these bad boys are revved up to take home the top prize.
Battling for 3rd and 4th was John Boban and David Feliciano. Boban the drift MOB as he is
called by  his team, was in the zone for this round and faces a tough FORMULA D Asia
International Veteran Feliciano. Feliciano has too much in his sleeves and takes 3rd and the
MOB in 4th. The Battle for round King between 5th time LD Champ Alex Perez and Defending
2011 Champ Audel Sison ended up in a  un call as both driver failed to score in run 1 making
run 2a do or die. Alex Perex failed to sneak pass Sison as his car straighten up before the u turn
drift and Audel Sison bagging 1st for Round 3 of the Hyundai lateral Drift Championship.

Round 4 of the Hyundai Lateral Drift Championship Series will be on September 29, 2012 at the
open parking lot of Municipal hall of Marikina City beside the sports complex.
