Subaru Completes Manila Leg of Impreza Challenge 2013

Motor Image Pilipinas, Inc. after holding the event in Cebu and Davao for the first time, with a total of 208 participants, went back in Manila to get the Top 7 winners who joined by winners from Cebu and Davao, and the rescheduled Pampanga to complete the Top 10 Challengers that will represent the Philippines in the Asian Finals in Singapore on October 26-29, 2013.

Manila’s Top 7 with an official time of 13 hours 4 minutes and 46 seconds are:
  • Edward Vargas
  • Robert Ocampo (Repeater)
  • Edd Rael Marcos
  • Carlos Antonio Creencia
  • Alex Neblasca (Repeater; Country Winner in Singapore last year)
  • Ariel Frayna
  • Juan Furiscal, Jr.
This year’s Subaru Impreza Challenge has become wider and exciting as the event being held in 4 different locations. The Philippine leg started in Cebu City last August 10, flew to Davao City last August 17, September 7 in Manila, and will wrap up in Pampanga which was moved from August 24 to September 14 due to Typhoon Maring.

The event concept derives from an endurance contest which was first held in Singapore in 2002 with only 3 cars were used with 120 contestants. Over the years it has grown into a 10-car event with 400 contestants. Last year the winner, 48-year old Tholmas Gan Yu Shen of Singapore, lasted for 78 hours and 30 minutes to reign supreme over 399 other challengers from Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Cambodia and took home the grand prize. This contest has become an annual event that contestants look forward to.

As the Top 10 Challengers fly to Singapore on an all-expenses paid trip to compete in the Singapore finals, they will join other finalist from nine Asian countries and Singapore contestants to battle it out for the grand prize, a brand new Subaru car (a Subaru Impreza 2.0i M/T worth Php1,158 million - if the winner is from the Philippines).

Contestants also have the chance to win cash prizes for being Country Winner (awarded to the last person standing from each country), Asian Winner (the last person standing from all regional countries except Singapore) and a Country Team prize for the longest surviving country (calculated by adding all the individual team members timings together).
