Hyundai Green Dealership Design Awards Winners

Hyundai Central EDSA won the greenest Hyundai dealer award.
Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI) and the University of the Philippines-Diliman College of Architecture (UPCA) capped the three-month Hyundai Green Dealership DESIGN competition with the awarding of winners last November 25, 2013 at the Eastwood Richmonde Hotel.

Bagging First Place was the team of Francis Timothy Santos, Carla Lim, and Carem Morales who conceptualized a green Hyundai Central EDSA. Second Place went to Aedriane Celis and Danilo Donor who worked on the green design for Hyundai Commonwealth Avenue. Third Place went to Patrick Lawrence Monfort, Jilliane Gomez and Andrey Lopez who were assigned to Hyundai E. Rodriguez. Winners received trophies and cash prizes.

The awarding took on more relevance as it was held during the fellowship night of the three-day South East Asia (SEA) Regional Sustainable Buildings Manila Conference (SB13), a prestigious regional conference on green design, planning, and engineering practices.
DESIGN, the acronym for DEALERSHIP EXCELLENCE THROUGH SUSTAINABLE, INTELLIGENT GREEN NETWORK, is expected to be the next big thing for HARI’s nationwide fortress of 41 dealerships.
Graduating students of UP Integrated Architectural Design vied to develop green design standards for selected Hyundai dealerships. The designs had to be consistent with the Hyundai brand philosophy and HARI corporate identity; cost-effective; applicable to the Philippine setting; and should foster the efficient operation and overall performance excellence of Hyundai dealers in the Philippines.
After three months of screening by the UPCA faculty, eight teams were chosen for the final competition. Each team was assigned to study and work on the “greening” of eight pre-selected Hyundai dealers: Hyundai Abad Santos, Alabang Muntinlupa, Central EDSA, Commonwealth, E. Rodriguez, Greenhills, Shaw Boulevard, and Sucat Road.

Final judging was held last November 20, 2013 at the HARI offices in Bonifacio Technology Center (BTC) in Bonifacio Global City. Comprising the panel of judges were UPCA Dean Mary Ann Espina; UPCA professor Alex Evangelista; Green Architecture Advocacy Philippines Chairman Architect Miguel Guerrero III; and HARI President and CEO Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo.

Said Ms. Agudo, “‘Sustainability’ has always been at the core of Hyundai’s operations and brand building agenda way before the word became in vogue. We take sustainability seriously--in the way we design and manufacture our cars, heeding the ever-growing public clamor for businesses to become more conscious about saving the planet in their product design and manufacturing and in their operations. With the implementation of these winning designs, we celebrate the creativity of our young ‘star-chitects’ and add value to our business by addressing our customers’ desire to experience serious green business in action.”
This groundbreaking partnership between HARI and UPCA signals HARI’s trademark leadership in innovation, this time in pioneering best green practices at dealership level with the view of pursuing sustainable businesses for a more sustainable world, in and from the Philippines.
