Mercedes-Benz Shows Off All-New C-Class

Despite Mercedes-Benz’s product diversification of late, the C-Class is single-handedly the brand’s most sellable model with over 2.4 million units sold. Now, the company believes that the all-new C-Class offers an even more sensual and clear design, a host of technical innovation, and a better list of standard equipment to keep it in the lead.

For starters, the all-new C-Class rides on a platform that’s stretched some 80-mm compared to the previous model. It’s also 95-mm longer and 40-mm wider making sure passengers, especially the rear, benefit from better interior room. Despite this, the new model is 70 kilograms lighter than before which in turn should return up to 20 percent better fuel economy without any compromise in performance.

In terms of design, the C-Class departs from the blocky and angular theme and goes for the same swoopy, complex lines already shown by the new S-Class. Like the flagship Mercedes-Benz, the C-Class is dubbed by the company as their interpretation of modern luxury. And like before, the C-Class is offered in two distinct exterior packages: one that has the Mercedes-Benz star perched on top of the radiator (the classic look) or with the star right smack in the center (EXCLUSIVE). The latter actually improves the C-Class’s co-efficient of drag.

Inside, the C-Class takes a page from the Mercedes-Benz sports cars design book with a large piece center console, circular air vents, and seemingly seamless clear-cut lines. At the center of the console lies a large 7-inch LCD display for the next-generation COMAND infotainment system. A new touchpad interface should make going through the interface feel much more intuitive than ever before. The touchpad is also equipped with haptic feedback. Other new available features on the C-Class include a heads-up display system.

Being Mercedes-Benz’s volume seller, the C-Class is available in a wide range of engine configurations. For the launch model, there are 3 diesel engines all having a 4-cylinder layout: a 1.6-liter, 2.0-liter, and 2.2-liter with power ranging from 115 horsepower to 170 horsepower. Meanwhile, there are 5 petrol 4-cylinder engines offering direct-injection (BlueDIRECT) with anywhere between 156 to 238 horsepower. A 6-cylinder version with 333 horsepower will follow in due course.
