625 HP Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is a Race Car in Street Clothes

Fresh from winning the title of North American Car of the Year, the Chevrolet Corvette is finally raising its middle finger against the Porsches and Ferraris, yes the Porsches and Ferraris of the world, with the introduction of the four-generation Corvette Z06. This is the most powerful, most capable Corvette yet with a face-melting 625 horsepower and 816 Nm of torque (at least) from its supercharged 6.2-liter V8.

Keeping all that power in your control, the Corvette Z06 comes with a choice between a 7-speed manual or a new 8-speed automatic. Chevrolet claims the automatic (which is a conventional automatic, not a dual-clutch) has no performance sacrifice because it can shift eight-hundredths of a second quicker than Porsche’s dual-clutch PDK.

Underneath, the Z06 has an aluminum frame closely shared with the Corvette Racing C7.R. In order to get maximum cooling, the Z06 has flared fenders, larger vents, plus wider wheels and tires. The “standard” Z06 comes with 285/30R19 in front and 335/25R20 at the back. Opt for the Z07 package and you’ll get even lighter rims (around 13 kilograms less in total) and Brembo carbon ceramic rotors.
