UPATED: Different Lives, One Car: All-New 2014 Honda Jazz Launched (w/ Complete Brochure)

UPDATE 1: See how the 2014 Honda Jazz stacks up against the competition (6/25).

Honda Cars Philippines is continuing its product-led comeback with the release of the all-new, third-generation Jazz—the sub-compact hatchback that promises to be the only car you need for all the lives you need. Dynamically styled with an intelligently designed interior, the all-new Jazz also promises to be one of the sportiest, most fuel-efficient cars in its segment.

Outside, the all-new 2014 Jazz is the latest addition to Honda’s Exciting H!!! design portfolio. The taut bodylines carry a very futuristic vibe that creates a distinct visual impact. The all-new Jazz features a lower ride height and together with the hard character creases, creates a look that emphasizes stability. Upfront, the all-new Jazz’s headlight cluster and front grille were designed to look as one giving it a wide, angular, and almost Storm Trooper-like look that unmistakable. New 16-inch alloy wheels (on the VX and VX+) with a two-tone multi-spoke design give it just the right dash of sportiness. At the side, the Jazz features side mirror turn signal indicators (for VX and VX+) while at the back, the rear spoiler and LED taillights (VX and VX+) cut a mean figure.

Inside, the all-new 2014 Jazz carries a wealth of special features which are high-tech. With the controls canted towards the driver, the all-new Jazz features the same touch screen display audio and climate control from the City. In addition, the Jazz also features HDMI and USB connectivity including smartphone mirroring. Other new features of the Jazz include a plusher soft-touch console panel, a Smart Key keyless entry system with push-button start/stop, and steering wheel audio controls.

However, the Jazz has always been known for its impressive flexibility when it comes to cargo carrying and the all-new model is no different. The all-new Jazz maximizes its size with the debut of the ULTR mode. The ULTR increases the Jazz’s versatility to suit a wide variety of passenger and hauling needs. In ‘Utility’ mode, the rear seats can fold in a 60/40 split to carry bulky objects such as luggage or groceries; in ‘Long’ mode, the front seat and fold and form a pass-thru to the backseats enabling the Jazz to swallow long times such as a surf board; in ‘Tall’ mode, the rear seat cushions can fold up enabling it to fit high and sizable payloads such as plants; and finally, in ‘Refresh’ mode, the front driver’s seat and rear passenger seat form a continuous piece for that quick catnap on the road.

Honda has now been taking the lead in the safety segment, and the all-new Jazz is no different. Among the available standard safety features include 6 airbags, anti-lock brakes with EBD and brake assist, vehicle stability assist, hill start assist, emergency stop signal (where the hazards flash automatically during a panic brake), and a multi-view reverse camera with dynamic guidelines.

Under the hood, the all-new Jazz shuns the 1.3-liter motor (like the City) for a purely 1.5-liter line-up. The proven 1.5-liter SOHC i-VTEC engine from the second-generation Jazz is retained but is further improved for better response, fuel efficiency, and cleaner emissions. Output remains the same at 120 horsepower and torque is at a healthy 145 Nm. Like the City, the Jazz now shifts to Honda’s next-generation CVT technology featuring Earth Dreams technology. The Earth Dreams CVT features paddle shifters (for 7 virtual gears). Fans of manual transmissions will love to hear that Honda is still offering the 1.5-liter engine mated to a 5-speed gearbox for the base 1.5 V variant. All variants of the Jazz come with the ECON button and the ambient light coaching meter for improved fuel efficiency.

The all-new Jazz is available in a range of six colors: Taffeta White, Alabaster Silver (V only), Attract Yellow (VX and VX+), Vivid Sky Blue Pearl (VX and VX+), Rallye Red, and Modern Steel Metallic (VX and VX+). Prices for the 2014 Jazz start at: P 768,000 for the 1.5 V M/T, P 808,000 for the 1.5 V CVT, P 908,000 for the VX CVT, and P 948,000 for the VX+ CVT. The VX CVT model will arrive in August.

  1. Still no leather steering wheel and lower ride height??? What the hell are those guys in Honda thinking?

  2. Sir, do you have any knowledge if Honda will release the new HR-V here in the Philippines?

  3. I dunno about this overstyled Jazz, at this price level I'd get the more practical EcoSport. Perfect for crappy roads and fording floods.

  4. How come all these new Hondas look like Chinese bootlegs of their previous generation counterparts? :/

    1. I agree with you, I actually prefer the look of the previous generation of both the City and Jazz rather than these current ones. It looked like they just added styling cues without regard and called it a "new" design.

    2. Nope, the previous gen Jazz looks like crap. This new gen's front fascia definitely looks manlier. The overall shape, though functional, still sucks compared to the City.

      Delete
    3. Well, that's your opinion. Adding a black bar mustache to the front grille doesn't make it manlier, especially when the previous gen had a sportier, cleaner and more elegant-looking honyecomb mesh grille. This one just looks more "pilit" and 'TH".

    4. You may have a point about the fussy looking grille but the headlights are an improvement over the previous gen.

    5. so whats your point June 27 @ 11:53?..what is the better choice in this segment?..and please stop using the "manlier" word..it sounds so gay..

      Delete
    6. But using the word "manlier" is manly. Also the ford fiesta ecoboost says hi.

    7. In this segment, young grasshopper, the better choice would be the Ford EcoSport, especially for going over bad roads and tire-high floods... Also, the Anon@9:21 AM guy was the first one who used the word "manlier", not the 11:53AM poster. So the 9:57AM poster would do well to read more closely next time.

  5. its not clear to me what's the difference between VX and VX+...can anyone enlighten me...

    1. VX+ has more airbags.

    2. thats it?..and it costs 40T more?..what the hell..

    3. 40 thousand is nothing compared to the hospital bill you're gonna get in a car accident

      Delete
    4. No thanks then. If I had a choice, I would prefer to spend the extra $$ on active safety (DSC/ESP/TCS/CBC/HBA/torque vectoring/etc.), not passive safety (airbags, crumple zones, side door beams, etc.)

      Delete
    5. In the brochure page for V, the "Audio and HFT Steering Wheel Control" should indicate that it is only included in the CVT model. Aside from this, I would just like to add that a "Coat Hanger" is also not included in the MT version as wrongly reflected in the chart page... unless the actual car in Honda Shaw I've seen earlier is not yet final.

      Delete
    6. Those "active safety features" won't save you when you're in a standstill and a pick up running 45km/h rams you.

      Delete
    7. Obviously that would depend on where exactly you'd get hit by said pickup. If you're waiting at a stoplight and that pickup rammed you from behind none of your passive safety crap would save you :P.

      Delete
    8. And that's why companies invest in improving a car's crumple zone. See, passive safety is more important than active safety features. The active safety technologies will be useful when one's driving like an idiot.

  6. I found out that there are no Grab Rails in the rear section of the Jazz MT. But in the brochure it says there are supposed to be 3 Grab Rails included. This is inconvenient for those who frequently hang their coat or shirts using the Coat Hanger that comes with a Grab Rail. I prefer manual transmission over automatic so pls. don't tell me to get the AT model instead just for the Grab Rails. C'mon Honda, how cheap can you be by excluding the rear Grab Rails in the Jazz MT?

  7. How about the new yaris M/T 1.5L?

  8. Okay, now that the Jazz came out I've decided to rank my prospect cars:

    1) Mazda 3 2.0 Sedan (Soul Red) - P2,016,000
    2) Honda City VX (Taffeta White) - P880,000
    3) Honda Jazz VX ( Taffeta White) - P908,000

908k is too much for a sub compact hatch... but the Jazz is great, it fits my sister perfectly.

The only draw back with the Mazda 3 is that I'd have to wait for the soul red, since it's being shipped from Japan.
