Uber Cuts Prices by 40 Percent this Rainy Season

Across three Asian cities, Uber is announcing a price cut on its flagship product, uberBLACK.

Uber, with a global presence in more than 130 cities, 25 of which are in Asia Pacific, is offering price reductions on its uberBLACK services in Manila, Kuala Lumpur, and Bangkok. Reduction is as high as 50% off its regular prices in some of these cities, making it cheaper than travelling in taxis.

Hundreds of thousands of riders across Asia have flocked to the Uber platform to satisfy the need for a reliable, outstanding service. Along with the convenience of a cashless and safe experience, the luxurious sedans have become a well-loved staple for those travelling in style and comfort.

As ridership increases, more driver partners are added on to the Uber system, increasing the availability of cars, and subsequently bringing down estimated time of arrivals. For example, ETAs are as low as less 8-10 minutes in the busy streets of KL.

Uber is changing the way people move around global cities, envisioning a world where private car ownership becomes a thing of the past, and road congestion is a distant memory. This dream could not be more relevant and important for the cities of Asia.

Mike Brown, regional general manager for Southeast Asia said, “the region has grown so rapidly for us, more than any other continents. So we decided to do this price cut for two reasons: it’s rainy season, people are on the move, and we want Uber to take you places with the lowest priced rides. Secondly, we want to thank our riders - we couldn't have experienced this amazing growth without their support.”
