PIMS 2014: Volkswagen Previews Golf GTI (w/ Complete Specs)

Volkswagen showed off its sporty side by unveiling two new additions to its line-up. The first is the Jetta Sport Edition, a new variant of Volkswagen’s globally best-selling compact sedan that now offers a more stylish exterior. The second is the Philippine sneak peek of the much-anticipated all-new Golf GTI Mark 7, a car that Volkswagen Philippines will launch in 2015.

Priced at P 1,480,000, the Jetta Sport Edition is a stylized version of the Jetta sedan. It now features front and rear spoilers, side skirts, tailgate spoiler, exhaust trim, and sportier 18-inch alloy rims with 225/40R18 tires. No mechanical or interior changes are made to the Jetta Sport Edition which means it’s still powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine with 110 horsepower and 280 Nm of torque. The sole transmission is a 5-speed manual.

Taking center stage at the Volkswagen pavilion though is the all-new Golf GTI Mark 7—the latest version of the hot hatch with over 40 years of history. The long-waited, much-anticipated five-door hatchback Golf GTI features a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine good for 220 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. Though front-wheel drive, the Golf GTI has a sport tuned suspension with front Double Wishbones and a 4-Link independent rear suspension with stabilizer. Like the Jetta Sport Edition, the Golf GTI runs on 18-inch rims with 225/40R18 tires and convenience features such as a push button start/stop system. The Golf GTI will be sold starting 2015 and will have a “competitive price” according to Volkswagen Philippines executives.

  5. Wait, Sir Uly, the GTI requires Euro 2??? Does this mean it can be fed with premium gasoline outside the big 3?? say, PTT?

    1. It's around $33k in the US, with tax it'll be $66k here. I'd guess 2.5 million here. Not exactly the STI rival I was hoping the Golf to be

  10. motortrend comparo - the GTi trashed the WRX over all.. could be biased. but the comparo made sense.. it doesnt look made up...If the Gti sells at the same price as the WRX, it could somehow cause a dent in the WRX's sales...having driven both, I'd pick the DCT of the GTi as opposed to WRX's CVT..
