Hyundai Philippines Aims to Return to Compact Crossover Form with All-New Tucson (w/ Specs)

Hyundai is showing off a bolder, more sophisticated, and technologically rich compact crossover in the all-new Tucson. A constant best-seller in its line-up, the all-new 2015 Tucson combines a bold and athletic exterior with a stylish and ergonomic interior. All in all, Hyundai is confident of getting back its leadership in the segment.

The bold and athletic new Tucson is the latest Hyundai product to benefit from the brand’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language. President and Chief Design Officer Peter Schreyer describes the Tucson as filled with “refined, flowing surfaces, bold proportions, sharp lines, and the brand’s newest signature—the hexagonal grille.” It’s rugged and classy, distinguished by its slanted, square-shaped wheel arches and wedge-shaped lighting fixtures.

Inside, the Tucson promises to be much more voluminous than ever before with a smartly packaged interior that optimizes the vehicle’s exterior-to-interior dimension ratio. The new horizontal dashboard orientation also maximizes space while leading to a highly ergonomic driving experience. The use of non-reflective displays and easy-to-understand cluster indicators communicate a driver-centric experience.

Available in a purely black cabin, the Tucson has premium materials and detailed cabin textures all over. The seats come with power adjustment, heating and cooling functions for the front seats, a power tailgate, and a Smart Key with push-button start-stop. It’s also aiming to be one of the safest offerings in its class with its list of comprehensive safety features such as a full suite of airbags, Hill-start Assist Control, Advanced Traction Cornering Control (ATCC), and even an adaptive cruise control system—the first in its class.

The all-new Tucson is promising uncompromising performance thanks to its choice of gasoline and diesel-fed engines. The gasoline variant is powered a 2.0-liter Nu MPI engine with a two-step VIS system developing 155 horsepower and 192 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the R CRDi with variable geometry turbo packs 186 horsepower and 402 Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to a 6-speed automatic with manual shift override (Shiftronix).

Hyundai is pulling out all the stops to make sure that the Tucson takes the market lead once more. With its bolder exterior, driver-centric interior, and richer set of technology features, this is one compact crossover that’s not only engineered for fun and play, but engineered to lead as well.

The all-new 2015 Hyundai Tucson will be sold beginning middle of this year. More details will be available by then.

  1. Uly, no more AWD variant? And it seems that this time the diesel variant comes better equipped than the gasoline one. I hope Hyundai utilized stronger unit steel this time around. The current model is known for a twisty/bendy monocoque chassis.

    1. Preliminary specs don't say anything about AWD but you don't know. Final specs will be announced mid year.

As for the chassis yes it's been improved. Double digit improvement for both torsional and twisting rigidity.

    1. The current Tucson's engine was changed midway throughout its life cycle. The new Tucson uses that engine. No GDI if that's what you're thinking.

  4. Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 is much better than 1.0. Its more mature and it will age well.

    1. I agree. 1.0 is a bit bland below the upper side character line & 2.0 fixes that problem.

    2. people like you who are so used to scour surplus and junk shops for your car's replacement parts could never comprehend hyundai's R&D thrust aimed at global consumers desire for safety, body structure rigidity, ride quality and fit and finish which approximates european brands at lesser price. For as long as there people with your kind of mentality there will be other brands which will go slow on improving their products simply because their old technology and design are still saleable with likeminded car buyers like you which exclaims as their slogan "better branded than brand new"

  7. I currently have a 2009 Tucson diesel variant and I love it. No issues till now. Great engine, no black smoke as compared to other diesel engines i see on the road..If i have enough savings, i'll still go for a new Tucson version.

  8. Much have been said about the durability of Toyota cars like Corolla, but Iam not impressed with its design. Very old school. Honda Civic is fine, but un nga mas mahal sya. It's like its full-option (Civic) is having the same price as the Tucson. I am as well waiting for the 2016 Civic. Let's see for some changes. Hyundai is definitely leading its way in terms of car designs both exterior and interior. I just hope that their engine is built to last like Toyota. Kung kasing ganda lang ng Toyota car designs ng Hyundai, I would go with Toyota. =)

I would not want to be their sucker just because they are first to use the word "prestige" in their ads as a marketing strategy
