UPDATED: The Next Step: Honda Cars Philippines Launches All-New 2016 Civic (w/ Specs)

UPDATE 1: And now, here is our First Drive of the all-new Civic RS Turbo (5/3).

Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) is celebrating its 25th anniversary by going back to where it all began: the Civic. At the festivities commemorating this occasion, HCPI unveiled the all-new, tenth-generation Civic, a car that pushes the compact segment envelope in terms of styling, driving dynamics, and advanced technologies.

Virtually everything is new with the 2016 Civic – an all-new vehicle architecture, sporty and sophisticated new interior and exterior styling, a more spacious and high-quality cabin, advanced engines, and a host of new premium features and technologies.

The taut and tidy proportions of the all-new Civic are complimented and accentuated by its design details including the sleek, swept-back bodylines, its sharp and aggressive face, and its bulging wheel arches. Dimensionally, it’s longer and wider, but lower than before. It rides on a longer wheelbase with wider front and rear tracks. The fascia consists of the trademark Honda solid wing grille that runs the entire width flanked by signature LED lighting that includes both daytime running lights and headlights. At the back, it’s distinguished by its distinctive C-shaped “light-pipe” LED taillights. The range-topping RS Turbo variant adds the prerequisite badging along with unique 17-inch alloy wheels, a gloss black front grille, wing-type trunk spoiler, chrome door handles, and LED fog lights.

The 2016 Civic is designed to set a new bar in dynamic performance in the compact sedan category, aiming to surpass the current offerings and even challenging luxury-class C-segment vehicles. In that regard, Honda engineers have worked on areas such as steering feel, handling precision, ride quality, and NVH. And every element of its design and technology has been optimized for this task.

As its name suggests, the RS Turbo gets a brand-new DOHC VTEC engine with direct injection and a low-inertia mono scroll turbo that delivers a maximum output of 173 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 216 Nm of torque from 1,700 to 5,500 rpm. An electrically-controlled wastegate allows boost pressure to be precisely controlled. For the lower-end variant, the 1.8-liter engine, with its 141 horsepower and 171 Nm of torque rating, has been retained. Both of these engines are mated to a CVT transmission developed under Earth Dreams Technology. The RS Turbo gives drivers more precise control with paddle shifters.

Ensuring top-notch handling performance, the all-new Civic rides on an all-new platform that’s made up to 59 percent high-strength steel and 14 percent ultra-high-strength steel. This allows it to reduce its weight by 30 kilograms while increasing torsional rigidity by 25.8 percent. And building on the foundation of its ultra-rigid structure, it uses a sophisticated suspension system with the rear multi-link mounted directly to the rear sub-frame. Front and rear hydraulic compliance bushings, commonly reserved for more expensive vehicles, improve ride and reduces vibrations while a dual-pinion electric power steering with variable gear ratio (2.2 turns lock-to-lock) improve low-speed maneuverability. A new Electric Parking Brake (EPB) replaces the conventional handbrake lever with a single switch.

The new interior is designed to match the exciting, modern, and sophisticated exterior styling while providing enhanced comfort, leading-edge technology, and class-leading quality. The dynamic and wide cockpit design boasts of high-class soft-touch materials throughout with the RS Turbo getting a leather steering wheel, shift knob, and seats as standard. The high deck console greatly increases passenger room with the front occupants getting an additional 27 millimeters of leg room compared to before. It also has one of the largest trunks in its class and together with a lower lift over height, larger opening, and 60/40 split-folding rear seats, make for a flexible and capacious compact sedan.

Class-leading ergonomics take center stage on the new Civic. The full-color TFT instrument cluster features a multi-information display for quick browsing of vehicle-related information that’s easily operated through a soft swipe on its Electrostatic Steering Wheel Controls. For audio and entertainment, it’s equipped with a 7-inch Advanced Display Audio (the RS Turbo gets standard GPS navigation) that has advanced touch controls, entertainment features, and smartphone connectivity. Climate controls are also featured on the Display Audio screen. Other key innovations include the Smart Key that incorporates a Remote Engine Start Function that conveniently starts the engine from the outside and turns on its automatic climate control system. It also has a Walk-away Auto Lock Feature which automatically locks all doors when the key fob is moved 2.5 meters away.

Designed to provide high levels of collision performance, the Civic has a full suite of safety features that include driver and passenger SRS airbags (with side and side curtain airbags for the RS Turbo), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Hill Start Assist (HAS), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Multi-view Reverse Camera with Dynamic Guidelines, and ISOFIX-equipped rear seats.

Honda Cars Philippines is once again aiming to reclaim the compact car throne with the all-new 2016 Civic. Seeking to realize a dynamic rejuvenation of the Civic nameplate, this all-new sedan represents one of the most comprehensive and ambitious new-model developments ever undertaken by Honda. The all-new Honda Civic is available in six colors: Cosmic Blue Metallic, Midnight Burgundy Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, White Orchid Pearl, Rallye Red, and Modern Steel Metallic. It’s available in two variants: the 1.8 E (P 1,088,000) and the RS Turbo (P 1,398,000). All Honda car dealerships nationwide are now accepting reservations for the all-new Civic with deliveries to start by June.

  1. ^The exterior design just doesn't cut it... the Honda design language is just out of synch!

  2. The exterior and interior design is not appealing, the price is not great, and I would never buy a car with a CVT, there's just no fun with CVT's. The Mazda 3 is still my choice in the segment.

    1. The interior is as bland as the exterior, the Mazda 3 is still the most gorgeous compact sedan. The Mazda 3 is a compact sedan but it has the best driving dynamics in the segment and you can't deny that the Mazda 3 still reigns supreme over your beloved CVT equipped Civic. Your description of the civic as a family sedan proves that it is a boring car to own and drive, there's just no fun in honda's anymore.

    2. Fun are for kids. Are you really that pathetic and desperate that you can only find fun in a car? If you really want to have fun, better play gran turismo kid. Instead of endangering the public with your need for your so-called fun, just do it virtually.

      Delete
    3. And you call the mazda's interior exciting? You're funny.

      Delete
    4. Kid? I'm flattered. Mazda's interior is BMWish, not to mention the numerous international awards it got. The 3 is also fuel efficient and practical, I do not need to mention that anymore if you are an enthusiast, apparently you are not. Not every one of us want a boring appliance to own. Stick with your beloved Civic then.

    5. If you want a CVT that's sporty and does not feel like a CVT, I suggest the Nissan Sylphy. I'm serious. The top-of-the-line is cheaper than the BASE 2016 Civic, and its CVT is better than Honda's and even Subaru's (Subaru's WRX CVT is no joke and great, and yes, I've tried it).

    6. BMW's interior is exciting for you? They're pretty bland honestly especially the 1 and 3 series. Going back to mazda, I don't find anything particularly exciting in the interior except maybe for the heads up display. Other than that, the interior seems surprisingly boring given the cool exterior. Nothing seem to stick out.

The civic on the other hand looks futuristic. The instrument cluster looks futuristic, the electronic brake looks classy and most of all its spacious. You can say the mazda's exterior is better than the civic, I won't argue with that, but the interior? Saying the civic's interior is bland is just plain ridiculous.

    7. Watch this. Mazda 3 vs civic.

      https://youtu.be/ETKA3iV6mA4

      The winner? Civic, better overall.

    8. Yes, the Civic is the winner for AutoGuide.com. However, it is worth pointing out that the cars being compared in the video have specs for the US market. This may not be applicable to the Philippine market. Bottom line is, both cars are great so it would be up to potential buyers which car they would choose. No need to bash the other car just to prove that you bought the "best" car.

      Delete
    9. Pretty much the same specs except for added safety features in the US. I think the comparison is still applicable in the Philippines.

    3. Ako tipo ko ang civic n ito, problema lang, sandamakmak ang mga humps s lugar namin. Parang ang baba masyado ng civic n ito. Bibili sana ako, yun lang mga hinayupak n humps s amin.

  4. All I see is a new headlight and taillight from the previous model.

  5. I find it hilarious that the haters are always mazda fanboys. Why are all the zoom zoom fanboys a bunch of douchebags? Hey, stop pretending like you're the leading man in a fast and furious movie.

    1. Come on, a compact sedan for 1.5m? People would buy an SUV with that amount of money. Honda fanboys are the douchebags, blinded by their unwavering loyalty to honda's glory days in the past. The new Civic is an ugly car.

      Delete
    2. And you can't deny that the Mazda 3 still reigns supreme over your beloved Honda Civic in the aesthetics and driving dynamics.

    3. Typical reply from a stereotypical zoom zoom fanboy. You're a lost cause dude.

      Delete
    4. Lost cause? You are the one blinded by Honda's *prestige* and past glory.

      Delete
    5. See that's the problem with zoom zoom fanboys like you. You're the one that's truly blind here. You automatically assume that I'm a honda enthusiast obssessed with the old civics. FYI, I'm more of a lancer guy back in the 90's. The old civics, especially their owners annoy the hell out of me. I'm just weighing specs vs specs here. The current civic just offers so much although you pay premium. If it were the altis that has a turbocharged engine, I'd get it.

Based on the way you talk, you're obssession with mazda doesn't seem too healthy. I suggest you step back a little with your enthusiasm. You look crazy.

      Delete
    6. And yeah I agree the mazda is a good car, not the best. But you're enthusiasm is way too much dude. Chill out.

  6. Isuzu MU-X LS-A 3.0 4x2 price. Compact sedan specs. No questions ask, go buy a Ford Everest now. :P

    1. Actually, SUV's shouldn't be compared to sedans. In terms of comfort, efficiency, refinement, handling and ease-of-use, the sedan still wins.

However, at that price, I'd rather get an HR-V, an XV or a Tucson. Those are crossovers, and they are nearer to cars than Body-on-Frame SUVs.

      Delete
  7. WTF. I'll better buy an SUV for that price.

    2. then go buy an suv! nobody is forcing you to buy a civic. sheesh people!

    3. Eh bumili ka ng SUV mo. Baka naman Ecosport din lang ang kaya mong bilhin.

  8. Atleast, no more 2 tiered dash/speedometer.

  9. Overprice etong civic as compared to Mazda 3, Corolla, sylphy and Elantra.

  10. Saw a couple of them last night beside Shang Makati. They actually look really cool. Parang back to the glory days of civic cool.

yeah it's more expensive than peers, but maybe the premium is warranted with the engine/tech you get?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Wow, if I'm in the market for a Toyota 86 I'd seriously take the RS into consideration. It's cheaper, bigger, more comfortable and with peak torque that low should be faster at the get-go. And the tech inside makes the 86 look like it's from the '8Os.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Very different types of car. More like if one can't afford the wrx, better get a cheaper turbo charged sedan.

      Delete
    2. I know they're different, that's why I cited the RS. It's the sport version of the sedan.
If one can afford this, he certainly can afford the 86 or the WRX. It's the other aspects I mentioned that makes this a better alternative. Of course, the money saved is one of them.

    1. WTH!! Is wrong with you? Do you really think that a brand new civic will get you girls? Oh come on... ! Maybe it's time for you to wake up and maybe grow-up as well !!!

      Delete
    2. Back in the 90's it did. Not sure if it'll work this time since most of the gold diggers like SUVs nowadays.

      Delete
  19. What a cool car! But at this price range, would it be better to spend on an SUV or a pick-up truck instead? Say, an ASX GLS AT or a D-Max 4x2 AT? Don't bash me. I'm just comparing them relative to their prices and not car classes.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. follow your heart and needs. if your need and heart goes for a car, buy the civic. iF your heart and need goes for an SUV or pick up truck - by all means go for one. Its a matter of what type of vehicle will suit your needs and purpose.
      end of story.

  20. That's like saying you can buy a fortuner instead of a wrx or a toyota 86. You shoukd comparr prices only with the same class.

Meron po akong Jeep Cherokee at Honda Accord ... hindi mo po pwede na ipag tapat dahil iba ang kanilang category.

and the road are not good, traffic all the time and the raining season is coming......what a beautiful car but maybe it's better to get a SUV instead ?
