Scania Celebrates 125 Years

From its founding as a privately-owned wagon builder in Sweden back in 1891, Scania has gone a long way. Today, as it celebrates its 125th year, it has emerged as one of the world’s leading manufacturer of trucks and buses for heavy transport applications and of industrial and marine engines.

“Our customer’s best profitability is our focus. In order to achieve that, Scania has always been and continues to be at the cutting edge of technology in providing sustainable transport solutions,” said Mr. Marie Sjödin Enström, Managing Director of Scania Southeast Asia.

Locally, Scania is also celebrating its first year of business. Under distributor BJ Mercantile, Inc., Scania sold its first truck a month even before its showroom opened in February 2015. Since then, Scania has been gaining momentum as the preferred supplier of long-haul trucks and trucks used for mining and construction.

New additions to the local Scania line-up include the R560 which has a V8 engine designed to meet the highest demands in fuel economy, driver appeal, and reliability. The company has also begun to offer pre-owned trucks as well.

Apart from that, Scania also offers a complete range of buses and coaches for public transport operators and coach companies. It’s also taking a foothold in power generation engines. Scania Gensets deliver outstanding fuel economy and uptime. With superior quality and proven reliability, it’s the optimal equipment for generating electricity.

“The local market’s response is very encouraging,” said Leilani Lim-Tan, Vice-President of BJ Mercantile, Inc. “We are excited to announce that we will be able to surpass this year’s target of selling 125 units in celebration of Scania’s 125th anniversary.”

Scania seeks to raise the bar in the local transport industry. It has now introduced Euro 4 compliant engines and is offering driver training and servicing training as well. The company is also set to launch Scania Fleet Management which allows businesses to take control of their fleet and get the most out of their businesses. Scania Fleet Management allows for full fleet data on all vehicles and connecting data on vehicles and drivers to map locations in real time; helping customers achieve up to 10 percent better fuel economy.
