UPDATED: Mazda Philippines Confirms CX-3 Will Arrive by End of 2016

UPDATE 1: Read our First Drive of the 2016 Mazda CX-3 2.0 FWD.

Mazda Philippines has confirmed that it will sell the CX-3 subcompact crossover for the Philippine market before the end of 2016. This is positive news for those in the market for a sporty subcompact crossover after Mazda Philippines initially said it would be difficult to get any allocation from Japan. Now, it says it has secured inventory, albeit severely limited.

“Production capacity remains constrained in Japan, and Mazda Philippines has previously informed that the CX-3 will not be available until next year [2017]. It now appears Japan recognized the need to keep the Mazda business momentum in the Philippines moving ahead, and had allocated some of its oversubscribed production of CX3 to the Philippines customers,” says Mr. Steven Tan, President of Berjaya Auto Philippines, the exclusive distributor of Mazda in the Philippines.

Mr. Tan refuses to give more details on the time table and ballpark pricing of the CX-3 for the Philippine market, saying they will be revealed in due time. However, it’s worth noting that if the CX-3 is positioned against the Subaru XV and Honda HR-V, then it will likely come with a 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G gasoline engine mated to a 6-speed automatic in both front- and all wheel drive configurations. It will also come with the latest technologies including the Mazda Connect infotainment system.

Philippine market CX-3 units will be imported CBU from Japan. This is unlike in Thailand where it is locally assembled solely for the Thai market to avoid high import tariff. Mazda Philippines cannot source its CX-3 from Thailand because it does not meet the local content required to be included in the ASEAN Free Trade Agreement or AFTA. There are no plans to assemble the CX-3 in the Philippines.

    5. WTF? You call that a comeback? That doesn't even make sense. Typical mazda fanboy. All I'm saying is you're being a hypocrite.

    6. I'm not the anonymous at 12:47pm. Yet you are pointing fingers. You call everyone who defends Mazda as the mazda fanboy. How about you? Who's the hypocrite now.

    7. Just because they love mazda's doesn't mean that they hate hondas. Why are you insisting that they hate honda's?

  2. Mazda CX-3 or the Honda HRV?

  3. What about the diesel version of this? Are we getting it?

  4. HRV for space; CX3 for a more sporty and fun to drive feel

  5. I've been thinking. The only real advantage of Honda cars over Mazda cars is space if you disregard external factors such as resale value, parts availability, etc. What if Mazda would build its next generation of Skyactiv vehicles with interior space that could match or surpass Honda's?

    1. Aside from maximizing interior space, Hondas usually are more refined and has a better ride compared to mazda. The disadvantage is usually the more expensive price.

  6. For me, Mazda also has an advantage with the conventional automatic tranny. Honda's using CVT and even the most well maintained ones can get broken in time. Not sure how much it costs now but as reported in another forum, a Jazz CVT replacement costs 300k.

  7. I found the CX5's space tight as compared to even my compact sedan, how much more this CX3?

  11. the problem with this corporate identity look thing with car manufactures is that every model and class looks the same up front. from mazda2,3 and 6 halos pareho ng itsura. same with the cx3, cx5, cx9.. pareho din tingnan. except for the size.. gone are the days na iba iba ang identity look ng bawat segment. not bad, not good either.

    ReplyDelete
  12. You're right. I would not buy the new CX-7 if it looks all the same as the cheaper models. Same with the 6

  13. I attended one transport show in dubai and the mazda display area has all the models with the same soul red color and everyone of them cars looks the same. you cant tell one from the other. except for the miata. I wonder why car brands went to this route. from porsche to audi to ford to hyundai, etc...

    ReplyDelete
  14. I think car makers went this route to establish corporate identity. With other brands, they do look similar but you can easily tell them apart. However, Mazda took this to the extreme and its hard to tell the difference between the different models. Is it due to a limited design budget?

  15. I hope they built it better than the CX5, which has below average reliability. Made in Japan pa naman

    2. Its a JD Power study on vehicle reliability I saw here http://www.jdpower.com/cars/study/2016-Vehicle-Dependability-Study-%28VDS%29-by-Category/843ENG/Compact-SUV/1131

    3. That's one of the primary arguments of mr zoom zoom fanboy. Mazda is supposedly superior than other japanese brands like toyota and honda because it is made in Japan. Ano ngayon masasabi zoom zoom fanboy?

    4. I don't know what to say. So far, owners of CX-5's I've known are very satisfied with their ride. The oldest car was a 2012 model. In other websites, Mazda is among the most reliable ones. To each his own. http://www.newsday.com/classifieds/cars/consumer-reports-best-and-worst-car-brands-in-2015-include-lexus-mazda-and-toyota-1.10387053

    5. The Consumer Reports study you cite was a combination of factors, like road test while the JD Powers focuses on reliability alone. I've driven the CX5 myself and its great to drive, maybe the best among small SUVs but according to JD Powers, has problems with reliability. I tend to rely more on this rather than word of mouth and reputation.

      Delete
    6. Yup. Word of mouth is usually unscientific, inconsistent and mostly biased. Just look at those clowns who bought korean cars and saying they were "satisfied" with it. We all know that's a load of bull

    7. Don't look now but Kia tops the quality survey of cars unseating Porsche http://www.jdpower.com/press-releases/2016-us-initial-quality-study-iqs

      Delete
    8. Uhh right. Are you sure about that? The article you cited talked about initial quality. Initial quality doesn't seem to translate to long term dependability.

      Delete
    9. Well even long term study by jd power ranks the sportage and tucson ahead of the cx5. Quality has improved by leaps and bounds over the past years

  16. Some pinoys still live in the 90's. For sure d mo pa Na experience mag drive Ng Santa Fe. I'm not saying it's the best in it's class but it is not crap. just read the review of sir uly about it. Sabagay mas credible mga kwentong barbero sayo.

    1. Just because its powerful or comfortable doesn't mean its reliable. Use logic pare.

      Delete
    2. It is. so far. Baka you mean powerful and comfortable at the same time. if that's crap for you then you must have a luxury car.

      Delete
    3. Let me simplify it for you.

      Performance =/= Reliability

      Got that?

      Delete
    4. yup. It is reliable. Base on my experience.

      Delete
    5. Sure it is-- in a vacuum. Long term reliability drops considerably though after 3-4 years.
Enjoy it while it lasts, kung baga =P

      Delete
    6. 3 - 4 years of comfort and fun sounds good to me unlike never experiencing it at all in a car. It's in the way you drive and takes care of the car din naman yan. 3 - 4 years lifespan estimate. I hope your not a world renown automotive engineer if that's the case. =P

      Delete
    7. ^ well, it's your money. do whatever you want to justify it. it's called choice-supportive bias. but really, have fun with your car that'll break down in a few years. enjoy it while it lasts.

      Delete
    8. I'm just stating facts base on my experience. Keep on hoping negative things nalang. =P How can I be bias then? I'm not even saying that it is the most reliable brand. All I'm saying it is reliable so far. I'll keep you posted when it suddenly broke down. I'm not a car salesman. Like I said my basis is through experience with the vehicle which is a Santa Fe only. I can't speak for other hyundai models cause i haven't own one. I actually have another car which is a toyota fortuner 2011 model that is, which is very reliable and durable. But it's not my everyday car anymore. I can say that because it is based on my experience too.
Ang alam ko kasi pag sinabing bias ay yung nagdodown ng certain brand without even having experiencing it. I guess ok na sakin ang 5 years. Usually don ako bumibili ng bago sasakyan. =P kaya pa extend ng konti yung negative prayer mo. Gawin mo na 5 years. Thanks.

      Delete
    9. go read the first post saying Pinoys live in the 90s. The responses here are based on that.
It is bias when a person degrades a whole race just to make a point about a 'personal experience'.
Again, enjoy your vehicle while it lasts.

    10. funny how some became synonymous with all. I guess hating really clouded someone's vocabulary. Like I said 4 more years will be ample for me. =P just give it an additional year on your estimated lifespan and I'll be grateful. Looks like your car is indestructible. What is it? Para yan ang next car Ko. wag Lang luxury car. Baka wala na Ko pambili bigas non.

  17. Thats quite an achievement by kia. Mainstream Japanese brands never even topped that jd powers quality study which was always topped by german luxury brands

    3. Nobody said that Korean cars are crap right out of the dealer. In fact, they're quite good. The problem is that dependability takes a toilet dive just after 3 years.
Here's the dependability results for 3-year old vehicles:
      http://www.jdpower.com/cars/awards/Vehicle-Dependability-Study-(VDS)-by-Category/843ENG

You can cherry-pick and point out a couple of Korean standouts that scored high-- but none of them were top scorers in *any* car segment. The Japanese brands' models got consistently high scores, with the exception of Nissan (which makes me doubt the future of Mitsubishi).

    4. 10 years ago i never thought much about korean electronics now they make kick ass products that dominate the industry and left jap rivals in the dust. 5 years ago i didnt think much about korean cars except they probably suck. Now they are growing by leaps and bounds in quality and design over rivals. I have been to korea and they're set to be richer than japan this year or next. Japan inc should watch out. More competition = better cars
