In a recent report released by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines or CAMPI for the third quarter of 2016, new vehicles sales for the first eight months increased by 28 percent or 229,919 units from 179,839 units in the same period of 2015.

72 eligible vehicles, but only one took home the ultimate prize: the 2016 Car of the Year – Philippines. Organized by the Car Awards Group, Inc. (CAGI), which this website isn’t a part of, bestowed that title to the Honda Civic RS Turbo. And for truck lovers out there, CAGI has given the 2016 Truck of the Year – Philippines to the Isuzu D-Max 3.0 4x2 LS A/T.

As the only carmaker with a continuous presence in the country for the past 50 years, MMPC is stepping up its commitment by acknowledging local parts suppliers who will take major roles in the local production of the Mirage and Mirage G4 under the Philippine government’s Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy (CARS) Program.
Not having even one hybrid or diesel-powered vehicle in its line-up didn’t hamper Mazda Motor Corporation as it topped the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s list in terms of highest overall Manufacturer Adjusted Fuel Economy for the 2015 model year. This is the fourth year that Mazda has been ranked in first place.

After a failed attempt with the Tribeca, Subaru is going for the 7-seater mid-sized crossover market segment once again, but this time with a much larger offering. Shown as the Viziv-7 concept car at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show, it’s a foreshadowing of Subaru’s new 7-seater crossover which will be named Ascend, at least based on recent patent filings by the Japanese carmaker.
SeaOil, the one of the largest independent fuel player in the Philippines, announced that it will be offering a cash back promo for Grab drivers and employees at P 2 per liter rebate on gasoline and P 1 per liter on diesel.

Today, Lexus announced the formation of a creative partnership with film studio EuropaCorp. One of the early highlights of this collaboration will be the highly anticipated 2017 science fiction film, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, starring Cara Delevingne and Dane DeHaan. Lexus collaborated with the Valerian creative team, as they imagined and brought to life the vision for the SKYJET, a single-seat pursuit craft featured in the film.

Samsung Electronics and Harman International Industries, Incorporated today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Samsung will acquire HARMAN for US$ 8 billion. Upon closing, the transaction will immediately give Samsung a significant presence in the large and rapidly growing market for connected technologies, particularly automotive electronics, which has been a strategic priority for Samsung, and is expected to grow to more than $100 billion by 2025.

Jeep has certainly made a name for itself, producing some of the world’s most capable off-roaders. And whether they’d admit it or not, this can cause a problem to any new model not fitted with a live axle or mechanical locking differentials. Such is the hardcore nature of a typical would-be Jeep buyer that anything not remotely “Trail Rated” is dismissed as rubbish and sent packing to the junkyard in the sky. But at the same time, Jeep can’t stay blind and deaf to the world of the small crossover. It’s certainly lucrative and represents the fastest growing segment globally. If Jeep wants to ascertain its future in the world market, it needs a good one in in its line-up.
