What’s forty four horsepower between friends? Apparently, a lot, especially when the subject matter at hand is the Peugeot RCZ. See, for all the RCZ’s stunning beauty, the lack of performance meant it was purely a boulevard cruiser than anything else. And though some potential owners couldn’t care less, what about those who wanted a bit more go with their show? It seems Peugeot is listening and they have decided to introduce a new RCZ variant: the 200. And if you guessed that “200” here meant 200 horsepower, you got it right.

When Peugeot says to the world that wanted to become a design-driven car company, it set out an atomic bomb in the form of the RCZ. Living up to the company’s tagline, “Motion & Emotion”, the RCZ quite literally is a head-turner. It’s responsible for quite a number of strained necks from doing double-takes or craning just to take a better look at the car. It has rapidly made the transition between concept car to production reality quickly and as a result pushed the French brand from oddball obscurity to style icon. What Peugeot has successfully achieved here is to put style above everything else; style above performance, practicality, and pricing. And you know what, it’s very French and it works.

Even if Peugeot returned to the Philippine market just a year ago, they’ve been making themselves busy. For The Manila International Auto Show, Peugeot is showcasing their updated RCZ sports coupe. The RCZ is made even more of a stunner thanks to the revamped front end which echoes Peugeot’s new design direction. The RCZ ditches the single gaping grille for a two-level grille separated by a body-colored section. This small change does wonders to the RCZ’s style which is comprised of the sweeping proportions, low rear deck, and bubble top roofline. And despite having only a 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, the RCZ has 156 horsepower good for a 0-100 km/h time of just 7.8 seconds.
