Chevrolet Trailblazer, Colorado Goes Through Extreme Water Test to Ensure Flood, Typhoon Capability

The rainy season has officially begun, according to the state weather bureau PAGASA, and that will likely lead to a higher risk of road traffic accidents. Torrential rain, especially when caused by typhoons, can present unique challenges to drivers that can catch them off-guard, including reduced visibility, slippery surfaces, unseen obstacles and flash floods.

Review: 2017 Chevrolet Trailblazer 4WD Z71

The Trailblazer is a very important vehicle for Chevrolet Philippines. Becoming the main entry point of thousands of Filipinos into the world of the bowtie brand, it accounts for the lion’s share of Chevy’s annual sales. Already boasting some of the segment’s best specifications way back when it was first launched in 2013, Chevrolet could have sat back and relaxed. But its rivals didn’t allow that respite.

First Drive: 2017 Chevrolet Trailblazer and Chevrolet Colorado

Chevrolet has one mission when it comes to updating the Trailblazer and Colorado. Knowing they have the segment’s best mechanicals that still deliver class-leading numbers, they simply needed to make both exude a more premium feel. Chevrolet acknowledges the criticisms leveled at their less than stellar interiors before, and now, they’ve come back with a vengeance. The 2017 Trailblazer and Colorado may very well be the best in their segments.

Review: 2014 Chevrolet Trailblazer LTX

Photos by Ulysses Ang
How much will P 100,000 get you these days? Well, if you were to believe online sellers, that’s the admission price of a brand-new Apple iPhone 6 Plus. And while some won’t bat an eyelid spending a hundred grand on a large white brick (well, gray or gold if you prefer) that bends, for a huge chunk of the population, you’re better off spending that cash somewhere else. Though I cannot speak as your personal financial consultant, I happen to stumble upon one of the best value offerings in the 7-seater diesel SUV category: the Chevrolet Trailblazer LTX.

Review: 2014 Chevrolet Trailblazer 2.8 4x2 A/T

Photos by Ulysses Ang
When Chevrolet first released their Fortuner/Montero Sport killer, the Trailblazer, there was one glaring gap in the line-up: a 4x2 with an automatic transmission. Sure, off-road purists balked at the notion of getting a highly-capable ladder-on-frame SUV and removing its transfer case, but 99 percent of people just want a 7-seater with generous ground clearance and impervious levels of water wading capability. And though Chevrolet offered the Trailblazer 4x2 with a manual transmission, only a handful of people would opt a three-pedaled set-up because of traffic. Well, Chevrolet took a year to engineer and bring one over, but now that it’s here, the Trailblazer 2.8 4x2 A/T has become the 7-seater SUV to have.

2013 Chevrolet Trailblazer 2.8 LTZ vs 2013 Toyota Fortuner 3.0 V

Which one is better: Chevrolet Trailblazer 2.8 LTZ or the Toyota Fortuner 3.0 V? This is a question most commonly asked, but never answered; at least not directly. But, no matter how you look at it, this comparison is inevitable. On one corner, you have the Toyota Fortuner—the one who pioneered the entire “sleek-looking, truck-based 7-seater SUV” craze (sorry, the Ford Everest doesn’t count because it looks just too agricultural). Recently re-styled and upgraded, the Fortuner soldiers on with more or less the same innards that made it successful. On the other is the Chevrolet Trailblazer, the newest addition to the ever-growing slew of alternatives, and single-handedly the vehicle that has catapulted the bowtie brand into to the mainstream. It maybe new from the top-down, but it keeps very close to the Toyota Fortuner formula. And with a price spread just a hair above P 45,000 (P 45,112 to be exact), these two were destined to slug it out.

Overall, the consensus was these two cars are impressive, proving that Chevrolet is off to a great start this year.
