Review: 2013 Hyundai Accent CRDi M/T

Photos by Ulysses Ang
“That's a nice car,” said my wife's officemate as I dropped her off. This just proves that the Hyundai Accent CRDi Hatchback, even its modest MT guise still evokes the looks and style that can make people comment like that. Hyundai may have destined the CRDi MT as a fleet-friendly car, but it still has the right stuff to be of serious consideration.

“Surprise and delight the customer” may be a common marketing goal these days, but it’s still unusual to find a car that genuinely fits the bill. After all, a Genesis Coupe is expected to be fast and a Starex to have enough room for two basketball teams. But during the course of testing dozens of new cars each year, there’s one vehicle that clearly stands out and it takes the swoopy, fluidic shape of the new Hyundai Accent CRD hatchback.

Hyundai/Kia Admit to Exaggerated Mileage Claims in US

A probe done by the US-based Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has concluded that Hyundai and Kia have both been found guilty of exaggerating a majority of their vehicle's fuel economy claims for the 2012 and 2013 model years. Apparently, the EPA estimates that this practice has been done since late 2010. As such, both of these Korean automakers will compensate the owners of some 900,000 vehicles sold under the now false claims.

Hyundai to Launch Diesel Accent and Hatch Really Soon?

Our friends at Top Gear Philippines has reported that the much-awaited (and much-delayed) Hyundai Accent diesel and hatchback versions will soon roam the streets of Manila.

According to the site, Hyundai Automotive Resources, Inc. (HARI), the official distributor of Hyundai automobiles in the Philippines already has one CRDi-powered Accent at their office brought in for pre-launch testing. Also, HARI has already received the green light to sell the Accent diesel and hatchback variants from their Korean head office.

So, what's stopping them? Apparently, supply. When there's adequate stocks of the Accent Diesel, HARI will begin shipping these fuel-sippers into the country. Oh, we can't wait!

Review: 2006 Hyundai Accent CRDi

“Surprise and delight the customer” may be a common marketing goal these days, but it’s unusual to find a car that genuinely fits the bill.  After all, we expect a Porsche to be fast and an Expedition to have enough room for two basketball teams.  During the six weeks of testing for Car of the Year 2006, one vehicle stands out in my mind long after the dust has settled on the roads of Forest Hills, and it takes the bulbous shape of the new Hyundai Accent CRDi.
