Be A Driver Experience Brings All Mazda Fans Together at Fuji Speedway (w/ 37 Photos)
The unmistakable shrill of the Mazda 787B was audible long before it hit the start/finish straight. Then, as the iconic orange and green 1991 Le Mans winning car became visible, its wail permeated every inch of the Fuji International Speedway. Looking around the grandstands and the pitlane, no one was covering their ears; everyone was taking this full sensory experience in. It was music to their ears. It was, undoubtedly, a fitting finale to Mazda’s “Be A Driver Experience.”

First Drive: 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS 2WD
Hyundai is ambitious to say the least. Instead of going against the plebian Pick-up based Passenger Vehicle or PPV market as they did before, the 2019 Santa Fe is aiming squarely for the mid-sized luxury SUV crowd. It’s a move that may seem mad, but considering that there are far less competitors in this segment, the added breathing room has given Hyundai the chance to create an SUV that can wow the world. It’s a chance they haven’t squandered, giving birth to the fourth-generation Santa Fe; an SUV that successfully shifts the balance of power squarely in favor of Hyundai.

Experiencing Central Luzon in the Volkswagen Santana, Lavida, and Tiguan
The Philippines has declared August as “buwan ng wika,” a month-long celebration of the Filipino language. Of course, it’s only fitting that Volkswagen, a brand revitalized with a more affordable roster of vehicles, brought its Santana, Lavida, and Tiguan on its first-ever road trip through Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, and Bulacan.

First Drive: 2019 Ford Ranger Raptor (w/ Specs, Video)
The Australian Outback—a harsh, unforgiving dingo eat dingo world. Stretching some 160,000 square kilometers, it’s untouched, raw, brutal—the sort of environment where only the toughest survive. It’s here, in a relatively small 4,000-square kilometer patch up in Northern Territory that the Ranger Raptor is given its first shakedown.

What's the Best Fuel Economy Figure We Could Do with Isuzu's RZ4E Engine?
Isuzu launched a modern, downsized turbodiesel engine last March in the form of the 1.9-liter RZ4E Blue Power. Fitted under the entry-level mu-X and now, D-Max, the Japanese diesel specialist touts it as a technical tour-de-force with two goals in mind: offer response expected for an SUV (or pick-up) in its class while returning even better fuel economy than the outgoing 2.5-liter motor.

First Drive: 2019 Mazda3 Skyactiv-X (w/ Video)
Tucked behind the current-generation body and the matte black paint job lurks the all-new 2019 Mazda3. Slated for market release sometime between April 2019 and March 2020, it not only marks the fourth-generation model to carry the zoom-zoom banner in the compact car segment, but it also represents the biggest gamble for Mazda.

This is How Mazda Keeps Building Cars Worth Driving
Haven’t you noticed anything with Mazda lately? Despite being a small carmaker (it has about a 4 percent market share in Japan and 2-3 percent globally), they’ve continued to make fresh products year after year. How have they been able to accomplish this?

How Mazda Designed The i-ACTIV AWD to Act Human
Based on the human walk—that’s how Mazda describes its i-ACTIV AWD system. It’s a good thing though that the system wasn’t based on me; if it were, then it’d suck. The moment I stepped out of the bus and onto the Kenbuchi Proving Ground located north of Asahikawa in Hokkaido, Japan, I slipped and fell in full view of all the Mazda engineers and experts. It’s reassuring to everyone concerned that Mazda’s all-wheel drive system takes inspiration from more graceful humans.

6 Things You Learn About the Honda CR-V on a Road Trip
I’m no stranger to the 2018 Honda CR-V. After sampling the 1.6 SX Diesel last year, I loved it. It may not be the most beautiful looking or fastest compact crossover out there, but it’s certainly the best all-rounder. It has comfort, flexibility, frugality—key attributes that would normally be on top of a would-be buyer’s list. It’s so good that I named it as my Top Pick of 2017.

Driving the (Silent) Future: the Honda Clarity Fuel Cell Vehicle
When carmakers release a new fuel cell car, they always assert that it’s no longer a science experiment. Built on a dedicated platform that also spawns a plug-in hybrid and full-on electric vehicle, the Honda Clarity is the one that realizes that hydrogen-powered cars now drive just like a battery-powered electric one. This is future technology, available today. We’ve driven it and it was awesome.

Nissan Says Your Next Car is an EV. How Will They Convince You? (w/ Video)
Electric Vehicles or EVs are currently in vogue right now in Japan and in the Western Hemisphere, especially in Europe where several countries have announced plans to ban diesel- (sooner) and gasoline-powered (later) vehicles on the road. That said, Nissan thinks that your next car could very well be an EV.

“The era of Electric Vehicles has come,” boldly declares Hiroto Saikawa, Nissan’s President and Chief Executive Officer as the company pulled the curtains off the all-new, second-generation Leaf. And just as its predecessor changed the perception of market viability for EVs (it has sold over 300,000 units globally making it the best-selling EV), the Leaf aims to embody Nissan’s future. It just so happens it’s an EV.
