Review: 2022 Honda HR-V V Turbo Honda SENSING
Having driven the base Honda HR-V before (read my full review), I bemoaned the lack of power from its normally-aspirated engine. Now, having sampled the top-of-the-line HR-V V Turbo, does a forced induction motor really rectify all complaints about Honda’s compact crossover? Well, read on and find out.

2023 GAC GS3 Emzoom Vs Honda HR-V V Turbo
By now, you’d probably think the Honda HR-V is my favorite punching bag; after all, it was the subject of our first head-to-head comparo I did early in the year against the Hyundai Creta. And it was a comparo that, to say the least, produced an upset with the Creta 1.5 GLS Premium winning over the HR-V 1.5 S. Now, here’s my second comparo of the year, and this time the mid-grade HR-V V Turbo is going against an unlikely rival in the GAC GS3 Emzoom.

Review: 2023 Honda HR-V RS Turbo Honda SENSING
You are looking at the best variant of the current-generation Honda HR-V. Having driven the base HR-V S (and even pitting it against the Hyundai Creta) and the mid-grade HR-V V Turbo, I can now, with absolute certainty, say that those variants simply pale in comparison to the HR-V RS Turbo. Generally, I’m allergic to recommending a variant that’s been dolled up by a body kit and a few extra features, but Honda’s actually dug deep to make this not just the best iteration of the HR-V yet, but one of the best compact crossovers around.

Review: 2019 Honda HR-V 1.8 E CVT
As carmakers continue to churn out more and more crossovers, segment overlaps and increasingly niche positionings become inevitable. Sometimes, a crossover once deemed alright may find itself falling through the cracks as the market pie keeps on getting smaller and smaller. This is a story about one of them: the 2019 Honda HR-V 1.8 E.

2017 Honda HR-V EL vs 2017 Mazda CX-3 Sport 2WD
Objectively, Honda created the sub-compact crossover segment in the Philippines back in 1999. At first, buyers didn’t warm up to something smaller than a compact crossover, but fast forward to today and they’re considered vogue. They’re a foil to the diesel-powered SUVs, providing more style, driving fun, and urban maneuverability while still giving that added ground clearance that people crave nowadays. More than anything, they’re now seen as the compact sedan’s more fashionable alternative. And while you can buy a Honda Civic or Mazda3 for this sort of money, one can argue that going for either HR-V and the CX-3 is a visible sign that you’ve finally made it. The question is: which one is the fashion leader and which is the fashion follower?

Is There Still Room for Honda's HR-V: A Perspective on the 2019 Honda HR-V RS
In recent years, there has been a steady growth in the subcompact and compact crossover category. The potential is real, with brands like Subaru coming out with the XV, Mazda introducing the CX-3, and even Jeep coveting a piece of the pie with the Renegade. One of the first players in this segment, Honda saw to it that the HR-V gets updated for 2019 with this one: the sportier-looking 1.8 RS CVT. And spending more than a week with it, it’s clear that the HR-V still has what it takes to standout of this crowded segment.

2023 Hyundai Creta 1.5 GLS vs 2023 Honda HR-V 1.5 S
The local crossover segment is an interesting one. What was once a category with segments delineated by size and price has turned into one with an almost confusing number of overlapping choices. No other segment offers buyers the choice of propulsion type—normally aspirated gas, turbocharged gas, diesel, hybrid—but also the number of seats (5 or 7), and even the country of origin (Japan, Korea, U.S., China). At last count, there are over 20 out there, and those are just the players in the A- and Small Utility space. The segment is so huge that in 2022, 76,117 A- and Small Utility vehicles were sold—that’s as much as sub-A, A-, and B-segment passenger cars put together (76,182).

Review: 2022 Honda HR-V 1.5 S Honda SENSING
The HR-V has typically been a design test bed of sorts for Honda. After pioneering the compact crossover genre with the boxy first-generation model back in the late 90s, it then morphed to accommodate coupe-like lines when the second-generation model debuted in 2015. Seven years on, here comes a sleek, radically different HR-V yet again.
