Then, HARI brought in a single variant—the Veloster Turbo which is powered by a 204-horsepower 1.6-liter T-GDI engine. Of course, enthusiasts will be enthusiasts and wanted the proverbial forbidden fruit: the Veloster N. Thankfully, HARI is listening and has delivered—the Veloster N is in the Philippines.

Review: 2017 Hyundai Veloster Turbo

Better late than never is an adage perfectly suited to the Hyundai Veloster. While the rest of the world enjoyed its unique and quirky style since 2011, the Philippines had to wait a full five years before this compact hatchback officially made its way to Hyundai showrooms. Those five years was excruciatingly long, filled in-between with “will they” or “won’t they” statements. But now that the Veloster is finally in Manila, in the performance-oriented Turbo guise no less, is it worth the wait?

Hyundai Veloster N to Get Automatic Transmission Variant for 2021

The Hyundai Veloster N is a performance surprise to many, but since the sole transmission is a 6-speed manual, its appeal is somewhat limited. Well, that’s about to change as Hyundai’s high-performance N division has just confirmed: an automatic transmission variant is coming.

Official: 2021 Hyundai Veloster N is Now Faster

After teasing it last week, Hyundai has now made it official: the Veloster N now comes equipped with an 8-speed dual clutch transmission.

Called the N DCT, the 8-speed wet-type dual-clutch automatic enables the 275-horsepower Veloster N to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds—faster than the manual transmission version. And unlike a dry double-clutch transmission, the wet N DCT uses oil to significantly improve lubrication and cooling performance, which is typical of higher torque applications.

The Veloster N’s N DCT also unlocks features such as: N Grin Shift (NGS) which increases peak torque by 7 percent from 353 Nm to 377 Nm by allowing the turbocharger to overboost for 20 seconds; N Power Shift (NPS) which adds a more responsive feel during shifts; and N Track Sense Shift (NTS) which discerns road conditions and selects the shift timing and gear. These are on top of other typical features such as rev matching and launch control.

Aside from the new gearbox, the new Veloster N gets an improved infotainment system with an 8-inch high-def display, available N Light Sports Bucket Seats with Alcantara upholstery (they’re 2 kilograms lighter than the standard seats) with illuminated logos, and Hyundai SmartSense driver assist technology.

The new Veloster N will first go on sale in South Korea this month followed by other markets.

Aside from this DCT gearbox, Hyundai’s high-performance N division has other plans for the Veloster N.

Expected to bow in by next year, is a more powerful version of the Veloster N. According to several reports, the likelihood is that Hyundai will plop a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine into their hot hatch. This Theta III Smartstream engine will enable the Veloster N to crack the 300-horsepower barrier putting it squarely into Civic Type R territory.

Hyundai Debuts More Powerful Genesis Coupe, Veloster Models

Hyundai must be feeling a bit of pressure from the Scion FR-S/Toyota 86/Subaru BR-Z that it's chosen the 2012 North American International Auto Show to debut a mid-cycle refresh of its best-selling Genesis Coupe as well as its entry-level Veloster coupe.

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe, with its 300++ horsepower V6 engine and rear-wheel drive found its way to the heart of every car enthusiast. For the 2013 model year however, the love has grown. The same 3.8-liter V6 engine on the range-topping Genesis Coupe now makes 348 horsepower thanks to direct-injection technology. Meanwhile, the entry-level forced-induction 4-cylinder model sees a power bump to 274 horsepower from 201 thanks to a modified and improved turbo and intercooler set-up. Hyundai is retaining the 6-speed manual transmissions as standard on these two models while offering a new 8-speed automatic as an option.

This mid-cycle refresh also features a new front end, an improved interior with better materials and finishes, a revised and quicker steering rack, new front strut settings and a revised damper setting as well.

Meanwhile, the best-selling Veloster coupe gets an engine the looks deserved. While the 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine was okay, the sporty looks of the Veloster dictated that it needed more power under the hood. The result? Hyundai has shoehorned a twin-scroll turbocharger upping the output to 201 horsepower. According to Hyundai engineers, the overall power combined with the Veloster's light curb weight bests the likes of the Volkswagen GTI and Honda Civic Si in power-to-weight ratio. In fact, it's pretty darn close to that of the Mini Cooper S. Capping of the upgrades is a quicker steering rack.

The Veloster Turbo also gets unique exterior upgrades such as a revised grille, front and rear bumpers, tail lamps and center-exiting exhaust.

More photos after the break.

Powered by a 0.8-liter (yes, as in 800 cc), the Eon has a peak power of 55 horsepower and 75 Nm of torque. More importantly, it promises over 25 km/L in fuel efficiency.
