230,000 Sold And Counting: Why These People Chose To Lead With The Toyota Fortuner
Toyota Motor Philippines, the country’s top automotive company and a firm believer in the value of “kaizen” (Japanese term that means constant improvement), aims to always deliver the highest level of quality across its offerings. From this same mindset originates the Toyota Fortuner—the vehicle of choice for Filipinos with the power to lead.

2013 Chevrolet Trailblazer 2.8 LTZ vs 2013 Toyota Fortuner 3.0 V
Which one is better: Chevrolet Trailblazer 2.8 LTZ or the Toyota Fortuner 3.0 V? This is a question most commonly asked, but never answered; at least not directly. But, no matter how you look at it, this comparison is inevitable. On one corner, you have the Toyota Fortuner—the one who pioneered the entire “sleek-looking, truck-based 7-seater SUV” craze (sorry, the Ford Everest doesn’t count because it looks just too agricultural). Recently re-styled and upgraded, the Fortuner soldiers on with more or less the same innards that made it successful. On the other is the Chevrolet Trailblazer, the newest addition to the ever-growing slew of alternatives, and single-handedly the vehicle that has catapulted the bowtie brand into to the mainstream. It maybe new from the top-down, but it keeps very close to the Toyota Fortuner formula. And with a price spread just a hair above P 45,000 (P 45,112 to be exact), these two were destined to slug it out.

2018 Isuzu mu-X 3.0 Blue Power vs 2018 Toyota Fortuner 2.4 TRD
It is given: mid-sized 7-seater SUVs is now this generation’s family car. Aside from a seating configuration that allows the entire caboodle to hit the shopping mall in style, they’re tall (flood-proof), durable, and most importantly, powered by a frugal (ish) diesel engine. Naturally, not one SUV could have everything. This suddenly puts into focus the buyer’s priorities: does he want something practical, but dull or is he will to sacrifice a bit of that practicality for a dash of sportiness?

First Drive: 2022 Toyota Fortuner GR Sport
The Fortuner GR Sport is a litmus test of Toyota’s brand strength in the Philippines for two reasons. The first is because at P 2,509,000, it’s the first mid-sized pickup-based passenger vehicle or PPV to cross that psychological price mark. Second, it continues the quick and sometimes scattered diversification of Gazoo Racing (Avanza GR Sport, anyone?)—a division often associated with sporty, go-fast Toyotas.

Review: 2021 Toyota Fortuner 2.4 4x2 G AT
This car needs little introduction. You, your relative, your friend, or at least someone you know own one. It’s a vehicle that transcends socioeconomic class; a vehicle found in both the garages of working men and politicians alike. It’s the Toyota Fortuner, and what you see here is the newest one around.

Review: 2021 Toyota Fortuner 2.8 LTD 4x4
By and large, Toyota got it right with the Fortuner. Just as 7-seater pickup-based SUVs were becoming a “thing” in 2005, the carmaker surprised everyone when they came out with one that was sleek. Since then, it’s managed to engrave itself into the hearts and minds of Filipinos as one of their most desired vehicles—one that transcends religion, political leanings, and socio-economic class. Whether you’re a DDS or Yellow (dilawan), boss or bodyguard, manager or rank-and-file employee, the Fortuner is something that everyone agreed on. And agreed on that it was good. Not perfect, mind you, but good.

Review: 2016 Toyota Fortuner 2.8 V
Normally, when a carmaker launches an all-new product, it opens not just a chapter in that vehicle’s history, but an entirely new volume. That said, Toyota didn’t get the memo with the all-new Fortuner. Granted it looks sleeker and much more sophisticated than ever before, it adheres too closely to the concept of kaizen or continuous improvement. It ends up telling pretty much the same story, remixed and retold.

First Drive: 2016 Toyota Fortuner 2.4 V and 2.4 G 4x2
There are people who’re blindly loyal to the Toyota Fortuner and there are those who’ll end up buying one anyway. Such is the power of Toyota’s Pickup-based Passenger Vehicle or PPV since its market introduction in 2005. It has revolutionized the industry, offering an American-style 7-seater mid-sized SUV for the price of a compact crossover. And though some of its competitors offered a good fight, the Fortuner remained the top choice whether or not it was considered matagtag (stiff riding) or not. Now that a second generation model is upon is, is the 2016 Fortuner all that you wanted? More importantly, is it still matagtag?
