First Drive: 2022 Toyota Hilux GR Sport
Being a petite-sized Asian means that I rarely get behind the wheel of vehicles the size of pick-ups. In fact, I’ve probably only driven less than a handful. It was, therefore, a bit thrilling to take one of the most iconic pick-up models in the Philippines on a 60-kilometer road trip. Beyond that sense of personal accomplishment though, does the Hilux live up to the expectation, even in the new GR Sport guise, that it’s drivable by every kind of motorist?

Review: 2022 Toyota Hilux Conquest 4x4
Without a doubt, Toyota’s been pouring over the spreadsheets, and in recent years they’ve made grim reading for the Hilux. Once the undisputed leader in the pickup segment regardless of powertrain combination, its sales, particularly in the high margin 4x4 segment, have been eaten into by the likes of the Ford Ranger and the Nissan Navara. Its competition, aimed at wooing lifestyle enthusiasts as much as farmers and construction workers, have been driven by all things SUV. So, what’s Toyota to do? Come up with the Hilux Conquest.

Review: 2021 Toyota Hilux 2.4 G AT
You’re looking at the best-selling pickup truck in the Philippines. It’s so common that on our street alone, you can spot at least six of them. They maybe in various shades, but they’re all the same grade: the Hilux 2.4 G. It’s not surprising to know that Toyota’s the king of 4x2 trucks—capturing a 34-percent market share, at the least. And with 13,637 sold last year alone, it was the second best-selling vehicle in our 7,107 islands.
