LROM celebrated its 15th Anniversary this year with an off-road adventure expedition into Kalimantan, Borneo, Malaysia and Indonesia in the spirit of the Camel Trophy. In 1996, the Camel Trophy cut through Kalimantan in Land Rover Discoveries, Defender 90s and Defender 110s. It was described as "a thousand miles and 18 rollovers to celebrate the first crossing of the island 100 years previously".

A hundred years earlier in 1896, Dutchman Anton Nieuwenhuis was the first European to cross Borneo from west to east (or vice versa), from Pontianak to Samarinda.Kalimantan (in Malay, Borneo; in Indonesian, Kalimantan) is the third largest island in the world and is located south-west of Zamboanga, Philippines.Kalimantan (Borneo) is home to one of the oldest rainforests in the world, along with the Daintree Rainforest in Australia and the Amazon rainforest.

The island is divided among three countries: Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia. Approximately 73% of the island is Indonesian territory. The Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak in the north occupy about 26% of the island. The sovereign state of Brunei, located on the north coast, comprises about 1% of Borneo's land area.
