Japan's Leading Electric Scooter Manufacturer Now in Philippines

Terra Motors Corporation, the leader in the Japanese electric scooter industry, is investing in the Philippines as part of its business expansion strategy into other Asian markets, others of which include Vietnam and Taiwan.

The industry giant offers electric bikes and mobility scooters that are, to date, top of its class and also provides repairs services of such vehicles. Only two years after its establishment, Terra Motors Corporation rose to Number One with some 3,000 units sold in 2011.

Terra Motors Corporation has since shifted its enterprise focus on the Asia-Pacific region, which accounts for 80% of the world’s scooter and motorcycle market. Over 20 million electric scooters and motorcycles were sold in China alone in 2011—a significant increase from 270,000 units sold in the previous year.

In the Philippines, tricycles and motorcycles are significant modes of public transportation, with some 3.5-million tricycles and 3.88 million motorcycles traversing roads across the country; Mr. Toru Tokushige, Terra Motors Corporation Chief Operating Officer, revealed plans to invest in a manufacturing facility in the Philippines, citing the country as a “viable market for more environment-friendly and energy efficient quality electric scooters and motorcycles.”

Terra Motors Corporation offers local consumers a “greener” option to gasoline-powered tricycles and motorcycles, with its growing range of electric vehicles that are best-in-class such as the Bizmo, a 50-cc electric motorcycle, which runs on a lithium battery that can be charged at any electrical outlet. The Bizmo has a maximum speed of 60 km/h and a range of 70-100 kilometers in ECO mode, with a charge of 6 hours.

“We are helping transform mobility and drive change by providing solutions to sustainable urban and metropolitan transport,” said Mr. Tokushige. “We also strive to drive the industry forward by working twice as hard as our competitors and delivering the quality. We look forward to partnering with Filipino businesses in working towards a better and cleaner world.”
