UPDATE: Read through the article for the Philippine name, launch date, and price...
UPDATE 2: We have all the launch details here.
After Toyota Motor Philippines gave the go signal to open the flood gates releasing model information and specs of its highly-anticipated Corolla Altis, their official Facebook page just sprung a surprise. There, a mysterious hatchback appears along with the tagline, “Get ready to live the easy life. Soon.”
If fellow automotive website, AutoIndustriya has their sources right, this mysterious hatchback is the upcoming Ayga city car, first reported by A.I. Editor in Chief, Vince Pornelos in July of last year. Essentially a Daihatsu, the Agya will be priced and positioned to battle the Mitsubishi Mirage, Hyundai i10, et. al., and features a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder engine (1KR12) good for 66 horsepower. The transmission is a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual. The 5-door hatchback measures in at just 3,600 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2,450 mm, putting it very close to the Echo. It shares its underpinnings with the Toyota Aygo—another city car designed for the Japanese and European market.
The expected launch date of the new Toyota Ayga is sometime near the debut of the Corolla Altis, according to AutoIndustriya. Will Toyota also dominate the sub-B car segment? The wait won't be too long.
UPDATE: According to our source, the Ayga will be renamed Wigo for the Philippine market. The sticker price? P 448,000 for the 1.0
UPDATE 2: Toyota Motor Philippines is targeting a launch date of February. We'll have more information as it becomes available.

It's Agya, not Ayga.

DeleteIs this Agya FWD or RWD? I was wondering since Daihatsu platforms built in Indonesia (such as the Toyota Avanza) are typically RWD.
