BMW Philippines Goes for Gold with All-New 4 Series Coupe

BMW Philippines is solidifying its leadership in the premium car segment by launching the all-new 4 Series Coupe—a car that they call “a new era for the sports coupe”. Replacing the 3 Series Coupe, the 4 Series (BMW now affixes even number model designations for their two-door models) has an athletically designed body, enhanced performance, and of course, improved efficiency.

The BMW 4 Series differs greatly from the previous 3 Series Coupe by being wider, longer, and lower. It rides on a wheelbase stretched by some 50 millimeters while the overall length has grown by 26 millimeters. More significantly, the 4 Series rides on a much wider front and rear track for a sportier and hunkered down stance. In fact, the 4 Series is actually widest at the rear wheel arches. It also enabled BMW Philippine distributor, Asian Carmakers Corporation (ACC) to fit standard 19-inch alloys with staggered fitment. At the front, the 4 Series is unmistakably BMW with its large double-kidney grille and bi-xenon headlamps with LED corona rings. At the bottom, a new single-frame air intake gives the 4 Series a sporty character.

Inside, the 4 Series fuses both style and sportiness. There’s only one trim line for the 4 Series and that’s the Sport. For that, it gets soft-touch black leather with red stitching and high-gloss interior trim accents (customers can also specify other interior colors including the red leather see in the photos below). The 4 Series is also very driver-centric with its controls angled subtly towards the driver (just by 7 degrees). It also receives highly contoured seats with electronically adjustable side bolsters and a thick three-spoke steering wheel. Thanks to the lengthened wheelbase, the 4 Series actually has rear quarters comparable to that of the 3 Series sedan. In fact, the two rear occupants will enjoy the comfort for rear air conditioning vents. And if you don’t plan to fit additional people at the back, the 4 Series’s rear seats fold in a 40/20/40 split.

The 4 Series also comes with BMW ConnetedDrive, a technology suite that combines driver assistance and integrated connectivity. The 4 Series’s iDrive system features direct select buttons and a 6.5-inch LCD screen for its infotainment system.

Currently, ACC has brought in only one variant of the 4 Series, and that’s the 420d. Powered by BMW’s TwinPower Turbo diesel engine, the 420d has a maximum output of 184 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. In addition, the 4 Series carries on the unparalleled driving dynamics of a BMW with its 50/50 weight-distribution. The 420d also comes with BMW EfficientDynamics as standard. This improves the 420d’s fuel economy with compromising on comfort or sporting fun. The 420d has automatic start/stop, brake energy regeneration, and ECO PRO that can cut down fuel consumption by as much as 20 percent.

The best part of the BMW 420d? It retails for P 3,990,000—the very same price as the BMW 3 Series GT with the same TwinPower Turbo diesel.
