So where does the all-new 2014 Mazda3 stack up against its compact car competition. Here, we’re pitting the 2.0 R 4-door against its most likely 2.0-liter competition: the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla Atlis, Mitsubishi Lancer EX, Subaru Impreza, and Ford Focus.
The information presented below cannot be too segment specific since this will be a new feature of this site (each time a new car comes out), so you cannot expect things like Active City Stop, i-Eloop, etc. This serves as a handy reference guide only. The best figures are presented in bold.
The chart below is a high-resolution .PNG file. In order to see it, you can simply click it. Otherwise, you can open it in a New Window or click ‘Save As’.
Yes, I just noticed that the Corolla Altis 2.0 V is actually the lightest one in the pack.
ReplyDeleteNope. civic is actually the lightest
DeleteYup. See the corrected chart.
DeleteThe author should also include the safety and tech features of each cars.
ReplyDeleteI'll keep that in mind. Will see if I can include it.
DeleteOn second thought, this will be too much work not to mention the image will just get larger. Perhaps for future comparisons, we can do that.
Deletefuel consumption also is a good addition in your chart.
DeleteNo 1.8 Elantra? Hyundai already released its specs
ReplyDeleteNot for this one. No. The comparison here is between the 2.0-liter compact cars in the market. I actually forgot to include the Focus 2.0 too. Haha.
DeleteFixed it. Focus 2.0 Titanium now included.
DeleteThat was fast :D
Delete-AM
Lancer GT I hope they would release the 2.4 AWD version here in the Philippines
ReplyDeleteHope you can add the Focus Titanium+ there soon, I believe this was updated for 2014, more or less it now looks like a sedan version of the Sport+ from the outside.
ReplyDeleteSafety features list is also important, aribags, traction control etc.
-AM
Done! Unfortunately, according to Ford's website, the Titanium+ still runs on 16's.
DeleteHindi naman ganun overpriced yung mazda from the breakdown ni Sir Ullyses.. This one's very promising.. Lalo na at hakot award ito sa ibang bansa. kung hindi ako ngkakamali.
ReplyDeleteHow about Chevrolet Cruze, it has a 2.0L engine...can Diesel engine be included in the list..
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about that but the problem with the Cruze is that the 2.0 is a diesel. It's like comparing apples to oranges. Same with the Elantra with the 1.6 and 1.8-liter engine.
DeleteThanks for this
ReplyDeletenice. make an SUV comparo also :) diesels and gasoline.
ReplyDeleteI think Subaru impreza is the overpriced in the compact car class having their 2.0iS variant for about 1.298 i think is a bit pricey
ReplyDeleteThe lack of features in the impreza are
Auto On/Off headlights
Rain Sensing Wipers
Smart key with Push button start.
The only thing that i like about the impreza is
Headlamp Washer
Sunroof
Rear view Camera
Auto foling side mirrors
The only positive side of the impreza is the AWD on the compact car segment which the competitors dosen't have.
But still i like the Mazda3 and Corolla Altis 2.0 :))) Looks promising to me hehe
That's why Subaru has decided to make their 2.0i-S on a per-order basis. The price remains the same at P 1,298,000. Their new 2.0i at P 1,128,000 is still a good steal. Yes, you lose the leather seats, sunroof, and rear view camera. BUT, the power folding mirrors, HID with headlamp washers are still there.
Deleteoo agree ako and maganda dun madalang ang impreza na bago sa roads natin kesa sa altis, civic, elantra and lancer ex. Tsaka i'm a big fan of boxer engines hehe. Kaya kapag nakaimpreza maganda kasi may premium feel na wala kang katulad. Pero sure ako altis and civic pa rin magiging winner sa sales kasi reliable brands and has this masa appeal
DeleteSir I'm into boxer engines too. I agree with you with regard to the premium feel- na ikaw lang yung may authentic rumbling sound ng F4. But, should I shoot for the Impreza or the WRX na? Not the STI, just the regular WRX. Your advice will be much appreciated. Salamat.
DeletePlease also don't forget yojin 3 of mazda, this means all pms until 3years/60k km is free, inlcuding fluids and filters. That could also worth around 30-60k pesos depending on the brand.
ReplyDeleteThat is quite true. I heard from the folks at Berjaya Auto Philippines that the Yojin 3 program saves you around P 35,000 for the Mazda3 over 3 years. Berjaya Auto Philippines also clarified that their warranty is 3-years / 100,000 kilometers. I've updated the comparison chart to reflect that.
DeleteAnd I-ELOOP AND I-STOP of mazda 3 against other brands equivalent if they have it. From what i understand, it helps with fc wgen the car us in full stop. It will stop the engine and the energy stored by this tech will be used to power the electricals of the car
ReplyDeleteYes, the 2.0 does have i-Stop and i-Eloop. Don't know the results of this during real-world fuel consumption though. We've yet to test it for long term.
DeleteYup, your right. Hopefully it will give good results when you test it. From light-moderate-heavy traffic results. Then highway results
DeleteSir ulysses is mazda now have a better resale value and reliability?
DeleteLalo na ngayon na under new management na siya at hindi ford. Lalo na after sales. Kasi planning to own a new mazda but my wife is questioning me on the quality and after sales ng mazda.
I can't say much about the long-term reliability and durability of Mazda products, but Mazda Philippines is now offering Yojin-3 as part of every Mazda vehicle.
Deletehttp://www.carguide.ph/2013/02/berjaya-auto-philippines-introduces.html
This means all PMS costs are shouldered by Mazda up to 3 years. It also includes free roadside assistance and a concierge service. This should be a good enticement for you to re-consider Mazda.
Nice compa. What will make this more informative is the running cost of owning each car brand. I have the bad experience of driving a brand that rips you off with their mainternance service and spare parts. Uly, I hope you can do survey on this matter too.
ReplyDeleteKindly include Nissan , Suzuki , Hyundai , Kia
ReplyDeleteThanks
I can't believe that the Civic is badly outclassed by its competitors. Miss the days of the FD as "the" car of this segment.
ReplyDeleteSubaru Impreza 2.0i has AWD, Cruise Control, Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), ABS with Electronic Brake-Force Distribution and Brake Assist, Headlamp Washer, Bluetooth hands-free, Rear view Camera and Auto folding side mirrors.
ReplyDeleteYou are right about all of that EXCEPT the rear-view camera. The 2.0i doesn't have a rear-view camera. The 2.0i-S does, but that's priced at P 1,298,000.
DeleteYou forgot to mention about airbags. Impreza has 6, Mazda 3 has only 4.
DeleteDid you actually READ the graphic? I suggest you do before you comment.
DeleteMazda 3 does not have curtain airbags. This is a letdown because I think trauma to the head is a common cause of death when a vehicle is hit on the side.
ReplyDeleteMazda3 HAS CURTAIN AIRBAGS but no side impact (seat-mounted) airbags. Hence the reason why it only has 4 airbag. Dual and curtains.
DeleteMy bad. But then again removing 2 airbags and just putting only 4 will make the car less safe. We all know that airbags save lives.
DeleteWe, the consumers should demand to car manufacturers and car dealers to put not just 2 or 4 airbags but at least 6 airbags and that cars should also have ABS and vehicle dynamics control as this has also shown to save lives. Safety should be one of the paramount considerations when buying a car.
ReplyDeleteI meant these have also shown
ReplyDeleteThe Honda Civic and Toyota Altis cost more than a million pesos each yet each of these 2 cars has only 2 airbags.
ReplyDeleteMazda designer: "perfect absolutely gorgeous"
ReplyDeleteTechnician: "Sir, you forgot to put in the touch screen for the navigation, radio, rear view, and many more. people would love that"
Mazda designer: "oh.. OK here's my table put it anywhere and don't forget to download apps for it."
Obviously, you have not seen the latest Audi A3 Sedan or Mercedes-AMG GT.
ReplyDeleteThe all-new Mazda 3 is one of the winners of this year's 10 Best Interiors awards given by Ward's AutoWorld. I will definitely get one of these babies.
Wow, unbelievable that the Altis still has those subcompact car-class non-independent torsion beam rear suspension, which is inexcusable for a 1.2M car!!! Same with the Elantra, an almost 1M car and still has the same non-independent rear suspension as cheaper cars in the lower segment.
ReplyDeleteWhere can one find "2014 Mazda3 vs the Competition for 1.5 variants"?
ReplyDeleteWhat about the proprietary battery... is this a minus ... can we get an immediate replacement ASAP incase the battery is dead before you leave the house... or leave the office ... just in case... can you replace the battery with a motolite that you can call anytime for replacement....
ReplyDeleteWould you think that it will have a good resale value after 3-5 years?
ReplyDeleteWould you choose it over the new altis or new civic of you had a choice? Or do you still have some reservations about the brand inspite of what people are saying about the new mazda 3? I'm worried about the new technology.
ReplyDeleteI always go for the resale value and low cost maintenance.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good comparison! Thanks. helps me to decide between Mazda and GTA
