BMW Philippines Updates 5 Series and 5 Series Gran Turismo for 2014

With dynamic ability, comfort, elegance and a host of innovations designed to further enhance a luxurious driving experience, the new BMW 5 Series once again raises the bar for the premium executive sedan segment. It has sealed its position as the global leader in its class with over one million units sold, earning a unique status in the segment. A new chapter dawns in its impressive success story with precise modifications to the cars’ design, and innovative additions to the range of available equipment. Two (2) models of the New BMW 5 Series, namely the BMW 5 Series Sedan and the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo, are now available in the Philippine market.

Additional contour lines for the surround of the BMW kidney grille and newly structured lower air intakes reinforce the sporting appearance of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan. The accentuated width of the rear end is underlined by an extra crease in the apron and slim, sharply contoured and therefore even more striking rear lights. The kidney grille has been modified to give a stronger shark nose effect. The new BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo boasts a modified front apron exuding presence and solidity. Its redesigned rear end creates a longer and lower-to-the-ground impression. The rear bumper draws a visual center of gravity closer to the road, making the vehicle appear lighter and lower at the rear.

The new BMW 5 Series models are now available in two design characters: the Modern Line and the Luxury Line, each offering a distinct set of features that suits the preference of the most discerning customers. The Luxury Line has an elegant and exclusive appeal, highlighted by its exterior elements finished in high-gloss chrome, such as the rear bumper, kidney grille, exhaust tailpipe, side air inlet trim, and door handle trim. On the other hand, the Modern Line possesses a brighter and more harmonic character, with the same exterior elements finished in satinated aluminum.

New details lend further refinement to the premium impression of the new BMW 5 Series’ interior as well as another layer to its functionality. Interior trims are covered in high-quality Leather Dakota upholstery to enhance the luxurious feel. The Control Display of the standard-fitted iDrive operating system is now bordered by a chrome trim. The storage compartments and cup holders in the center console of these models have increased in capacity. A revised rear section increases the boot capacity of the new BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo by 60 liters to 500 liters.

Faster, more economical, cleaner: all the variants of the BMW 5 Series come with a raft of optimized details. The result is reduced fuel consumption with no drop-off in sporting ability. Indeed, the new 5 Series models offer improved performance.

Both the New BMW 5 Series Sedan and New BMW 5 Series GT have the option of being fitted with either a 2.0-Liter or a 3.0-Liter diesel engine powered by the latest BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. The 2.0-Liter engine can put out 184 hp and 380 Nm, while the 3.0-Liter produces 258 hp and 540 Nm.

The Auto Start-Stop function, Brake Energy Regeneration and ECO PRO mode, the suite of standard-fitted BMW EfficientDynamics technology now also includes a cruise control mode.

The cars’ chassis technology – which includes a double-wishbone front axle, integral rear axle and Electric Power Steering with standard Servotronic function – has been further honed to deliver an unrivaled balance between sporting performance and ride comfort. The Driving Experience Control switch on the center console is standard on all models.

The host of innovations included in the new BMW 5 Series underline its standout position in the areas of connectivity, infotainment, convenience and safety. The new adaptive LED headlights and LED fog lights ensure utmost safety, especially when operating in low-visibility conditions. The Park Assistant is included in the New BMW 5 Series Sedan and provides a fully automatic parking feature when parallel parking, which is particularly useful in tight parking situations. The top-of-the-line 5 Series models feature the BMW Navigation System Professional, Internet Preparation, and Harman Kardon Surround Sound systems.

The new 5 Series also has a new multi-functional instrument display, a 10.25-inch display which uses high-resolution Black Panel technology to give the driver a wide range of information, from engine output to fuel consumption to infotainment functions. This enhances the vehicle’s operation as it exudes versatility. The display’s diverse functionality comes out when switching between the driving modes: COMFORT, SPORT and ECO PRO. This changes the information on the display to that which is best-suited to the driving experience associated with each mode.

The 530d Gran Turismo is equipped with additional features such as soft close door function, roller sun blinds, 4-zone automatic air conditioning, and the rear seat entertainment professional.
