Philippines Celebrates World Volkswagen Day

More than 150 classic and custom Volkswagen cars gathered last June 22, 2014 at the Camp Aguinaldo Parade Grounds, Quezon City in celebration of the World Volkswagen Day.

Organized by the Volkswagen Club of the Philippines (VWCP), and supported by Automobile Central Enterprise Inc. (ACEI), the official importer of Volkswagen cars in the country, the internationally-celebrated World Volkswagen Day commemorated the 77th birthday of the iconic Beetle.  It is annually celebrated every June 22, or the nearest Sunday to it.  From the popular 50’s Beetle, to the 2nd generation version, and up to the newly-launched all-new Beetle, the most iconic car definitely made its presence felt in Manila on that significant day.

The VWCP, currently headed by its president Mr. Doy Bondoc, was established in 1985 and is now one of the most active car club in the Philippines. Its goal is "to foster camaraderie among the VW enthusiasts of the Philippines, and to preserve and maintain the Volkswagen in the Philippines". The club has chapters in different areas around the Philippines such as in Manila, Batangas, Pampanga, Quezon, Subic and Baguio.
The highlight of the event was the formation of series of  Volkswagen cars taking the shape of the world-renowned logo. This was a significant moment as it marked the first time in more than a decade that the logo was formed in the Philippines, showing the Filipino community’s support to the brand’s legacy in the country.

Side by side with the classic Volkswagens were the newest models sold in the country today – the Volkswagen Tiguan, Touareg, and of course, the all-new Beetle. Participants had their pictures taken with the new generation Volkswagens and signed-up for test drives as well.
