Priced at 1,588,888, it’s P 93,000 and P 120,000 more than the prehistoric Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Montero Sport. Yet, with the Chevy, you get stuff its rivals could only dream about: a 200-horsepower, 500 Nm of torque Duramax diesel engine; a 6-speed automatic with sequential shift; and 800 millimeters of water wading depth. In short, a mechanical package that’s already worth the additional cash. And yet, there’s more.
Powertrain is just a part of the Trailblazer LTX’s winning formula. Compared to its barer LT sibling, the LTX has been kitted up with leather seats, reverse parking sensors with back-up camera, and beefy 18-inch alloys. All for, you guessed it, an additional P 100,000. Unless you need the mountain goat climbing ability of the LTZ’s 4WD system, it certainly makes the additional P 145,000 seem frivolous.
Sporting the second-generation Duramax diesel engine, the LTX gets an even 200 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque from a ridiculously low 2,000 rpm. The power bump is courtesy of a re-designed cylinder head and block; new exhaust gas recirculation valve, EGR cooler; and reworked piping. As noted in the Trailblazer LT drive before, this new Duramax is quieter and smoother. Gone are the days when it sounded like marbles in a blender. There are still some instances where diesel clatter would overwhelm the cabin (usually during partial throttle application), but for the most part, it’s perfectly suited for everyday driving.
Like other automatic transmission-equipped Trailblazers, the LTX gets a 6-speed automatic with sequential shift override. It’s a smooth gearbox and keeps engine revs to a minimum to maximize fuel economy. The first five gears are close together, but sixth is on the tall side, engaging only at speeds approaching 100 km/h. At full throttle, the Trailblazer produces enough power to dig you into your seat and sometimes, it chirps the rear tires. After a week of use, the Trailblazer LTX returned 14.08 km/L on the highway and 7.35 km/L in the city—pretty solid figures considering the performance.
Despite the rather large footprint, the Trailblazer has always been great with its city manners. The front Double Wishbones and rear Five-Link coil spring rear suspension makes it feel stable while returning a comfortable ride. The levels of NVH isolation are nowhere near a unibody crossover, but for a ladder-on-frame SUV, it’s exemplary. At low speeds, it can go through any pothole or rut without causing discomfort to any of the passengers. At higher speeds, the suspension does tend to hop over shallower obstacles sending minor shocks up the cabin to the discomfort of those in the third row. But at least the overall feel is one of solidity. The steering is very truck-like, but that’s to be expected. At least it feels stable and responsive enough during cornering. The brakes are also finely tuned though the initial pedal feel is mushy.
The build quality is generally up to par with consistent fit and finish throughout. The use of a two-tone cabin with a gray dashboard and beige leather seats does the job in uplifting the feel, though jeans will eventually stain the cowhide after prolonged use. The first two rows of seats are generous, but those in the third row will find the seating a bit knees-up. The controls are clearly marked and operate with a crisp and tactile feel. The Camaro-inspired gauges are on the small side, but thankfully, the multi-function display offers a digital speedometer among other functions. It must be noted though that the more discerning consumer (like those coming from luxury SUVs) may find the Trailblazer’s cabin a bit too plasticky. In Chevrolet’s defense, this is pretty much de rigueur in this class. Although, one gripe is that the steering wheel is still finished in urethane.
Aside from the 18-inch alloys, leather seats, and rear back-up sensors with camera, the LTX also comes with an auto dimming rear view mirror. And these are on top of a generous list of standard equipment from dual SRS airbags, anti-lock brakes with EBD, and an integrated audio system with USB and Bluetooth hands-free support. In fact, the only things differentiating the LTZ from the LTX, aside from the 4WD system of course, is the automated climate control, steering wheel audio controls, powered driver’s seat, and the MyLink audio-visual system.
Considering what you get in return, P 100,000 goes a long way in the new Chevrolet Trailblazer LTX. Although budget-conscious consumers will still head towards the entry-level LT, the LTX’s additional luxury equipment makes it even a better value-for-money SUV. The midsized SUV category is the country’s fastest growing and is also the most hotly contested. A huge chunk of sales is down to 2WD variants and this makes the arrival of the Trailblazer LTX very opportune.

ReplyDeleteFrom what i have heard that the Isuzu D-Max can reach about 14km/l if i'm not mistaken. The Isuzu D-Max and MU-X have the same engine...i think.

DeleteOh...and the D-Max and the mu-X do share the same engine but only in 2.5-liter guise (4JK1-TC). The 3.0-liter (4JJ1-TC) is specific to the D-Max.
DeleteMU-X and DMAX available locally have different engines. The MU-X is powered by a 136hp 2.5 liter VGT engine and the DMAX carried over the old 146hp 3.0 Iiter engine.

ReplyDelete- You might have overlooked the missing roof rails & projector headlights of the LTZ. The LTX still looks bare from the outside. Chevy should make it standard (like Fortuner, MS, MUX).
Well, you had me there...you're absolutely correct: the roof rails, projector lamps, AND the LED tail lamps don't make it from LTZ to LTX...still...I wouldn't care about these features. I actually prefer my SUV without roof rails (the problem of parking in low clearance spaces) :-)
DeleteIt dosen't matter because if you upgrade your LTX even more, you get the best 4x2 LTZ you need. I bought my Trailblazer LTZ before the AT LT & LTX arrived so I had to stick with it. It's very nice anyway and I enjoy it over my Monteros (GLS SE & GTV).

I use to have Pajero, CRV, X-Trail, Sportivo and Captiva, I prepare this brand, because of the safety features, suspension, speed power, rear disc brake, etc,, name it where you could not find in any other competitors. it worth owning one.

DeleteI too am the proud owner of a 4X4 2014 Chevy Trailblazer. This SUV can (if necessary) seat 8 Filipinos and Filipinas comfortably. I'm extremely pleased with the Trail's performance and good looks. It's also roomier than the Forester and the Montero. I particularly love the Hill Start assist and the Hill Descent assist. This Trail can really accelerate going up a mountain road, leaving everybody behind. And when going downhill, you never get the feeling of a ball rolling down a hill. I'm glad that the steering wheel does not come in leather. I wished they hadn't put in leather seats. From my experience with leather seats, they do crack from exposure tI have my seats covered up.

Ask po ako for those who have Trailblazer 2013 Manual Transmission or whoever have experienced it, normal po ba yong namamatay ang makina pag alanganin ang speed sa gear level?....Coz it seems I observed that there is this Speed Sensor of the unit that makes the engine shutdown if the running speed of the vehicle is lower to specific speed range of certain gear level. Unlike po kasi sa mga lumang kotse na mamatay lng ang unit pag hindi na talaga kaya paikutin ng engine sa certain gear level, correct me if I'm wrong in explaining it. And I also have din po kasi ng Ford Ranger 2014 na pag alangin ang speed sa gear ratio, hindi namamatay ang makina, instead binabalik nya lng sa Zero ang Accelerator.

ReplyDeletepinag mamalaki nlang palagi yung 200 hp nga TB , pero sa safety features talbog nman sa MU-X.. no offense sa mga TB owners pero 22o nman na mas maganda yung safety features ng Mu-x.. my TSC at ESC na plus HID na pati ilaw, plus gps navigation no wonder kaya mahaba yung pila.. just only my 2 cents opinion.
ReplyDeleteDude check out the TBs specs before you babble, TSC and ESC are TB features too, and so HD and HA. In addition to that TB has Cruise Control which MUX didn't include in their 4x4... Just sayin...

However, I saw a ISUZU MU-X over the weekend and wanted to know more. I looked it up online and it looks like a good third candidate vs. these two best sellers. Now, I am studying if I should get the ISUZU MU-X 4X2 LS-A A/T.

Then dash camera supplier said normal lang daw na mag alarm every 90% consumption of SD card capacity... This is BULLSHIT...... my TB LTX is onnly 3months old and I very much regret buying Chevy TB from Chevrolet Greenhills.

ReplyDeleteI bought a 4x2 LTX last Decemeber. We paid a little more for the gps and headrest screens because it doesn't come along with it. The ride and performance is very good but comparing it with others for its amenities, I felt shorthanded because of it's price.

Hi! With the noise inside-- I don't really know what is tolerable to you... but for me it is good enough. I do hear the rumbling diesel sound but to a minimal level. I think they did a pretty job in limiting the noise since even the irritating horns outside could be heard mildly and yeah even running above 100 is pretty smooth... I usually feel I'm driving too slow even at 100kph because you won't feel it, so be careful of overspeeding. But still you can't compare its quietness to a sedan. If you test drive it try running the engine and compare the noise with your windows down and when its up. Don't limit your choices; exhaust all means in comparing it with other brands of the same category level and choose which suits your taste so that you'll have no regrets. Hope this helps. Although the everest is more expensive, I'm still considering it because, for one, of the noise cancellation inside the cabin. DeleteThat's pretty cool for the new everest... I haven't tried it though. But it's still worth comparing those 2 vehicles firsthand before buying it. Make sure you test drive both and feel which is comfortable for you before buying. Don't be afraid to ask questions from the dealers; tell them outright that your comparing it with the other brand so that they can give you some insights. Your the customer and its your money your spending. They need you rather than you need them, because there are many suv to choose from. It's a good thing your buying it later at the end of the year where most cars will have promos and bigger discounts. God bless in buying your new suv and may you get the best deal.

ReplyDeleteIf you want to differentiate from the Toyota and Mitsubishi try a trailblazer, but if you want realibility and a car to drive for the next 10 years or so with service and etc...buy a Toyota.
I bought a trailblazer kasi I want to differentiate from the common (friends of mine have Fortuner and Montero) otherwise, I won't be able to value the differences (positive and negative)...so far..after a week ..no problems yet with my Trail..and importantly..my kid loves the head unit with Navi and Movie (that goes together free when you buy)....promo eh..

Delete4x2 to Baguio should be enough unless you frequent visit in some off road areas like Sagada then 4x4 should be sufficient. Price difference about 400KPhp more expensive.

The life of a car or truck no matter what brand depends on the maintenance and care that an owner does on his or her vehicle. I have a 2002 Nissan Sentra and to-date, it's still in its' immaculate condition .I have driven the car 6 times from Leyte to Manila and back and it still performs like new.

ReplyDeleteyup! delay sakin 2secs bago tumakbo. pero i think normal naman yan sa mga diesel. 2 weeks palang tb sakn manual 2.5. so far no problem and very satisfied. hindi mo nga ramdam ang 100kph sa slex. i was planning to buy a MUX pero no STOCK daw so i went to chevy and bought TB. kung speed hanap nyo go to TB. MUX pang lolo hehe :) binubulag lang kau sa gadgets ng MUX. engine naman talga important.

ReplyDeleteActually no it isn't. If Dodge were to ever make an SUV for this setting it would be even MORE expensive to maintain and parts are going to be DIFFICULT to find because Dodge. Also the Silverado and F-150 are the best trucks. The Ram is just cool because of it's Cummins diesel engine.

yes sir I have my LTX and experiencing the same always no GPS sa waze and google map.. Also I encounter dash camera continuous alarm. The supplier and Chevy Greenhills already replace 5times now still the same problem.. Now they saying its features to alarm every 90% capacity consumption of the SD Card. That is CRAZY excuse dash camera is capturing device only... So regret to buy Chevy from Chevy Greenhills VERY VERY POOOOOOORRRRRRR SERVICE
DeleteI bought our dash cam from a retailer store. It really has continuous alarm especially when the emergency storage is full. You have to delete it always before you drive or you can turn it off. The problem only if you turn it off is --it will overwrite previous videos captured. So you have to transfer immediately video files which is important to your laptop or computer when you get home and you won't be bothered with the alarm.

ReplyDeleteIts a chevy. And chevys are relaiable. Specially their trucks. Same goes for GM products. My brothers GMC yukon is still running well and is still powerful. Also our GMC yukon dinali. My other brother bought a chevy tahoe 4 years ago still runs like a dream too. All you need to do is.do the oil changes and change out normal parts that fade eveycouple of years like engine belts or so. Normal. Chevys last as long as toyotas if you take.care of them. (Cars i mentioned are in saudi) to the pinoys who keep spamming 3rd world.shit and so on they have this in australia and many other parts of the world. Plus to the guy who said to take a.CUV over this or.these breed of.cars youre wrong. A CUV is just a crossover. Any regular SUV with a body on frame is much safer than a CUV thats just a regular car raised up. The.body on frame design is much safer and sterdier. Example. The bus incident a couple of days ago. The toyota vios that was hit looks like a crampled paper. The toyota fortuner still kinda looks intact.
