Volkswagen Holds 2nd Leg of Fuel Eco Run

Following the successful first leg last October 21st, Volkswagen Philippines continues its Eco Fun Run together with its partner, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum.

The Eco Fun Run is a succession of events which aims to highlight Volkswagen’s highly-efficient, eco-friendly turbocharged diesel (TDI) engine variants and its equally powerful & economical TSI engines.

The second leg last November 20 was a mix of media and existing Volkswagen owners of the Polo, Touran and the iconic Beetle and each competed to set the record for the most economical fuel mileage achieved. The results were verified by Antonio Basco and Alexis Matel Carlos, representatives from the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Division of the Department of Energy.

Volkswagen’s characteristic features of the TDI engines are fuel economy, low emissions, high pulling power (torque) and outstanding power efficiency. The operating principle: a turbocharger supplies the engine with fresh air, thereby providing optimum cylinder charging. After compression, the diesel fuel is injected directly into the cylinders at very high pressure through a nozzle. Effective engine encapsulation keeps noise to a minimum, and the combination of internal engine measures and exhaust treatment ensures excellent emission figures.

Turbo Stratified Injection or TSI engines offer an enjoyable and involving drive, while cutting fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. A supercharger is added to create the unique TSI ‘Twincharger’ engine. This innovative engineering has brought forth high-tech engines with excellent torque and power output combined with low fuel consumption and emissions. This twincharged TSI engine is made available in the Beetle 1.4 TSI DSG. Overall, TSI engines provide a driving style which is economical, sporty and involves a minimum of gear-shifting.

“We at Volkswagen Philippines are excited to have the 2nd leg of the Volkswagen Eco Fun Run. Our purpose is to set our fuel efficiency record and enjoy the benefits of Volkswagen’s diesel and petrol engines known as TDI and TSI, respectively. Ultimately, our objective is to be the vehicle of choice and one of the ways for us to achieve this is by proving through these series of Eco Fun Runs that Volkswagen cars are indeed economical without compromising the driving quality,“ said JP Orbeta, president and CEO of Volkswagen Philippines.

Shell V-Power Nitro+ Diesel and Petrol are one of the best ever premium performance fuels in the market today. It is designed to restore and maintain engine power through active engine cleaning. Additionally, it contains anti-rust components designed to prevent corrosion of precision-engineered fuel injection systems.

The results of the 2nd Volkswagen Fuel Eco Fun Run are as follows:
  • Polo Sedan 1.6 TDI M/T: 30.48 km/L (Allan Hernandez, FHM and Wayne Tulio, Men’s Health)
  • Touran 2.0 TDI A/T: 21.94 km/L (Ron de los Reyes and David Madrid, Auto Review)
  • Beetle 1.4 TSI A/T: 16.32 km/L (Paulo Subido, Top Gear and Raul Promeda, STV)
