Isuzu Revamps D-Max for 2015, Adds VGS to Turbo

Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) is gearing up for the pickup truck wars as they revamp their D-Max for 2015. Launching their latest offering at the Clark International Speedway, the tough and reliable pickup truck now becomes more powerful and capable with its new drivetrain and re-tweaked features.

This year, IPC is shelving its 3.0-liter 4JJ1-TC engine in favor of the 2.5-liter 4JK-1 TC engine which is now fitted across the D-Max line. The high-end LS variant and standard LT 4x4 variant will how have a high-output version of the engine fitted with a new Variable Geometry System (VGS) turbocharger to complement the Common Rail Direct Injection (CRDi) technology. It packs a maximum output of 136 horsepower at 3,400 rpm and 320 Nm from 1,800 to 2,800 rpm.

“The new model with the 2.5-liter engine gives the D-Max better performance and stronger torque as compared to the previous models. Ideally better torque equates to improved performance, even on uneven roads,” says IPC President Nobuo Izumina.

Combining this new drivetrain, IPC is also upgrading the D-Max LS’s list of standard features. It now comes with a newly designed projector headlamps, LED combination rear lamps, custom bed liner, and a reverse sensor system.

Inside, it gets a new 2-DIN audio-visual entertainment system with built-in navigation, a dark gray interior trim, and leather seats to provide a more relaxing experience.

Also new for 2015 is the LT-X variant which bridges the gap between the utilitarian LT (Light Truck) and LS (Life Style) variants. The LT-X is easily distinguishable with its standard custom bed liner and 15-inch alloy wheels fitted with 215/70R15 tires. Inside, it gets the same 2-DIN AV-system as the LS variants as well as a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

“The 2015 Isuzu D-MAX has what a typical pick-up user would want in his/her truck. It is proven to show its top performance in whatever terrain – whether on or off road,” says Mr. Izumina. “Our new Isuzu D-MAX LT-X variant is fit not just to withstand the usual capabilities of the current pick-up trucks in the market but to go beyond the borders of stereotypes.”

Marking its launch, IPC has introduced a new tagline for the 2015 D-Max: “All You Need”, referring to its core values of reliability, durability, safety, and fuel efficiency. IPC also says that the new D-Max is clearly the result of close collaboration between the carmaker and its customers.

Adding to the D-Max’s milestone this year is that it passes the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program or NCAP with flying colors and bags a 4-star rating in both the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP) categories. It’s also awarded with the Best Child Occupant Protection Award by the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP). Aside from the reverse parking sensors, the 2015 D-Max features dual SRS airbags, anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, and ISOFIX child seat anchors.

“With the recent 4-star ratings that we received from the ASEAN NCAP, the D-MAX is now not just durable and dependable, it is also certified a safe ride for its passengers,” says Mr. Izumina.

Trying to remain competitive in the market, IPC is announcing the availability of eight variants now available at all Isuzu dealerships nationwide:
  • Cab & Chassis – P 712,000
  • LT M/T – P 872,000
  • LT-X M/T – P 935,000
  • LT M/T 4x4 – P 1,178,000
  • LS M/T 4x2 – P 1,154,000
  • LS A/T 4x2 – P 1,206,000
  • LS M/T 4x4 – P 1,428,000
  • LS A/T 4x4 – P 1,487,000
It also comes with a splash of color with the new Cobalt Blue color. It joins the existing colors of Cosmic Black, Garnet Red, Titanium Silver, and Splash White.

  1. Overseas D-Max models got 5 star ANCAP ratings. :/

  2. Most vehicles get downgraded when they reach our market. I think it would have gained 5 stars if Isuzu didn't get rid of the extra 4 airbags.

    No more X-Series?

  3. apparently isuzu always wanted to sell us their old engines. Philippines is a bagsakan haven for their old and outdated engines. Look at the engine of the crosswind. How many people have they fooled. They are now giving us 4jk1 tc engines. This engine should be paired to the all new 2nd gen dmax a year ago. Why now? Maybe due to competition from all new strada and navarra.

Thailand can have the latest engines from isuzu but Philippines must have the older model engines. no wonder, ang baho talaga pag may isuzu dumadaan or naka idle sa tabi...

    4. Sigurado ba kayo?

      Delete
    5. Why drag 4d56? I think the new 4d56 is more capable than isuzu. 178ps vs 136 of the isuzu. Ang layo pa rin ng isuzu and they are telling us upgrade?
We dont have to defend isuzu. They should know na hindi tanga ang lahat na mga pinoy. We should remember isuzu gave us a lemon, trooper skyroof edition. Lemons were used in their first common rail engines introduced here in the Philippines.

    6. You THINK. Just because an engine has more HP and Torque doesn't always mean it's better. The 4JJ1 is used in small N series trucks in Australia rated to last 500K KM before repair.

Funny how the Australians loved the powertrain combo of the Isuzus, kahit na alam naman nila na yung iba diyan eh sinisigaw lagi na class leading blah blah yung kanila

      Delete
    3. Gonna last longer is Isuzu? Are you in trucking business to say?
Isuzu Elf / Forward are way far compare to the Canter / Fighter or Supergreat in terms of performance / quality. Then try driving in convoy in lost highways in Luzon or to any point of Mindanao with your Dmax, Strada, Ranger, Navara & Hilux---pity the Dmax is screaming in high speed & always left behind. Maintenance cost ask delearships--Our 2008 Dmax succumb to ECV failure at early 90K kms compare to other brand, never will I drive Isuzu brands.

      Delete
    4. Pls, kung maganda nga ang quality nila bakit di nila ma surpass sales ng Isuzu globally as a truck maker? Bakit yung iba, kabago bago may issue agad.

    5. don't need to research, own & drive it & you'll know why people are negative about Isuzu Dmax downside. Cars / trucks are not build perfect but somehow you need to enjoy driving & experience the latest technology & of course less headache.
At first I was influenced that if diesel Isuzu is best however when purchased of trucks that use in business where I had bad experience with Isuzu. Soorry guys, for those who likes Isuzu then go ahead its your money not mine. People not bashing here this column.

    3. It's supposed to be a no frills pickup, a simple workhorse that does what it is intended to do.

I have to agree with you with the pricing though. Generally buyers would want to have the most from their hard earned money. To think na downgraded pa D Max natin not only in engine choice but other safety features pa.

It isn't the best pick up in terms of toys and power features, yes. But it doesn't make it a bad truck either.

Minomonitor ko ung research and development ng kada pick-up brands. Biniibili ko lahat ng brands ng pick-up every 2 years (except foton). Benta ko o trade-in ko after that. Ngayong may bagong dmax? trade-in ko ulit itong 1 1/2 years kong dmax at bibili ako ulit ng dmax JUST TO KNOW if worth it talagang bumili ng dmax at their current market price. Kung ako tatanungin nyo ngayon, its not worth it.

Ok lang sana yun kung lagi ka umaakyat sa mountain province or baguio eh, pero pag city driving di mo rin magagamit yun horsepower and torque ng sabihin natin Chevy Colorado. And walang diesel engine na di mausok.
