Subaru BRZ STI Concept is Start of STI's World Domination

Subaru’s performance division, Subaru Technica International or better known as STI, is expanding their global reach. At the New York International Auto Show, Subaru has announced that they are replacing the US-based Subaru Performance Tuning (SPT) in providing aftermarket parts as well as increased engineering presence in the company’s Global RallyCross Team.

Proving STI can weave their magic, they unveiled the Subaru BRZ STI Concept at the same auto show. It’s purely a showcase at this point but contains a full array of upgrades. For Subaru’s two-door rear-wheel drive coupe, STI engineers gave it several upgrades in suspension and chassis including STI alloy wheels, springs, and shock absorbers; aerodynamic upgrades with revised front and rear bumpers including an aggressive rear spoiler. Under the hood, it uses the racing engine used by STI for the BRZ in the Japan Super GT racing series. Inside, the BRZ STI Concept contains a lot of design components including revised gauges, steering wheel, and seats.

More Subaru models in the future will be upgraded by STI which will feature more extensive modifications from the factory.

“At STI we know from our racing that to win, it is important not only to have high power, but also that all aspects of performance are balanced over the whole car,” said Yoshio Hirakawa, president of Subaru Tecnica International, Inc. “When we achieve this balance, the driver feels that the car is easy to handle and reliable, and he can use it fully to the limits of its performance. Our plan is to produce cars and accessories that drivers can really enjoy.”
