Ford's 1.0-liter EcoBoost Wins 8th Engine 'Oscar' in 4 Years

Ford’s tiny 1.0-liter EcoBoost 3-cylinder engine has scooped its eighth award in four years at the 2015 International Engine of the Year awards.

For the fourth consecutive year, this engine has been named “Best Engine Under 1.0-liter”. The panel, composed of 87 automotive journalists from 35 countries, cited Ford’s powerplant for its drivability, performance, economy, refinement, and technology.

But Ford isn’t resting on its laurels just yet.

They just announced a partnership with engineering firm Schaeffler Group to test a new dual mass fly wheel that will enable cylinder deactivation to take place at a wider range of engine loads and speeds. On-road tests on a prototype yielded an improvement of 6 percent in fuel economy.
