Honda Cars Philippines Updates City for 2016 Model Year

A year since the 4th generation has been introduced locally, HCPI, never ceased in constantly updating its sole locally manufactured vehicle. Last night an updated version of the City was introduced to address customers’ need for a built-in navigation system.

The New City features new audio head unit systems across the line-up. The VX and VX+ variants get an Audio Visual Navigation (AVN) system presented via a seven-inch touch screen display that allows intuitive access to all features and functions.

The AVN system is equipped with Garmin navigation and also offers convenient features such 3D map viewing, next turn information (distance), speed limit reminder, over speed warning, Expressway Exit Guide and Photoreal Junction View when encountering complex intersections. For added customer convenience, Honda Dealers Point of Interest (POI) is embedded in the AVN system to allow users to search quickly for all Honda sales and service locations nationwide. The AVN also allows one-touch access to emergency health, traffic, and public safety contact numbers.

The new audio system is also equipped with different multimedia functions such as a DVD and CD player, hands-free telephone (HFT) via Bluetooth, voice command features, iPod/iPhone connectivity, USB ports, and FM/AM radio.

The audio system for the E variants on the other hand, features an advanced 2-DIN Audio unit with capabilities such as Bluetooth connectivity, USB plug-in, CD player, and FM/AM radio.

Under the hood, the New City is still powered by Honda’s 1.5 liter i-VTEC engine with its Earth Dreams Technology, Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT). The new CVT allows seamless gear shifting, gives instantaneous throttle response and delivers exceptional fuel efficiency. To further realize remarkable fuel efficiency, the New City E CVT and above variants, are equipped with the Eco Assist system which features the ECON mode. Engaging the ECON mode controls the engine, drive-by-wire, transmission, and air-conditioner to further improve the already outstanding fuel efficiency of the New City.

More than the improvement of its fuel efficiency, the New City was engineered to be a clean and green driving machine. The New City has been applied for Euro IV compliance, waiting for approval from the government. Conformity to Euro-4 level of emission translates to reduction in emissions of hazardous particles that will help mitigate the occurrence of ozone depletion and global warming.

The New City retails at: 1.5 VX+ Navi CVT (PHP 988,000), 1.5 VX Navi CVT  (PHP 898,000), 1.5 E CVT (PHP 789,000), 1.5 E MT (PHP 759,000).

The New City will be available in the following colors: Gold Brown Metallic (for VX+ Navi CVT & VX Navi CVT), Carnelian Red Pearl (for VX Navi CVT & E CVT). Crystal Black Pearl (for VX Navi CVT, E variants), Modern Steel Metallic, Taffeta White.

For those who would like to customize their City for added style, HCPI has accessory packages available that provide the customer with different options. HCPI will offer Modulo—Honda’s accessory brand—is offered in either Aero Sports Package or Utility Package.

Modulo Aero Sports Accessory Package includes Modulo front grille, rear under spoiler, side under spoiler, front under spoiler, a wing-type tail gate spoiler, illuminated side step garnish, and Modulo emblem. The Modulo Utility Accessory Package will have door visor, door side protectors, seatback holders, tablet holders, trunk cargo hook, and a trunk tray for added customer convenience.

MUGEN Accessories and packages will also be available. The MUGEN accessory package will include: a MUGEN sports front grille, a MUGEN front under spoiler, a MUGEN rear under spoiler, and MUGEN side under spoilers. Customers can opt to add a MUGEN 17-inch alloy wheels.

  2. Hi Sir Uly, is it possible to upgrade the existing audio system of 1.5 E CVT model into AVN (Audio Visual Navigation) system as features equipped in 1.5 VX lineup?

    1. Unfortunately no. The new AVN system is Garmin based and is a completely new head unit. But I'm sure you can get it as an accessory, but this will be pricey I'm sure.

      Delete
  3. I wonder if this headunit can be fitted into a previous gen Honda City??

  4. Hello Sir Uly. I'm torn between the Honda City VX and Honda Jazz VX. Having almost the same price point but different car class, could you please help me decide which one to buy (I'm going to buy this week btw)? We are a family of 4. Thanks!

    1. It's actually very common to cross shop between the City and Jazz given it's the same engine, platform, and all. But here's how you can look at it:

The City is a bit more luxurious and this shows in its slightly better interior spec (the only one to offer a leather steering wheel and now, the navigation package for the VX). The suspension tuning is also plusher than the Jazz. However, the Jazz gives a much more flexible interior with the ULT seats and sportier handling.

Personally, I'd get the Jazz because of the flexibility offered by its ULT seats. I would trade the less luxury features and firmer ride for this. In fact, because of the smaller price difference between the VX and VX+ Jazz models, I'd spring the additional cash to get the VX+ and enjoy the safety of 6 airbags and VSA.

      Delete
    2. I think only the 6 airbags, and seatbelt reminder are the difference between VX and VX+. I'd go for VX since 4 additional airbags for 40k is not worth it.

Also I'd go for Jazz than City since specs wise, Jazz has the advantage for the VX variant since it was released later than the City. I think City's VX variant doesn't have VSA, HSA, ESS and other features that Jazz VX variant have. There is a huge difference in City's VX and VX+ variant.

      Delete
    3. Jazz VX+ also has VSA, HSA, and ESS as you mentioned. VX doesn't.

As for the City VX+, the reason for the hefty increase is because of the leather seats. VX+ models get them. VX doesn't.

      Delete
    4. Damn. Honda should get their shit straight. The assigned features for their cars are confusing as hell.

      Delete
    5. is the site wrong? http://www.hondaphil.com/model/jazz/specifications/ Jazz VX has HSA VSA and ESS

      Delete
    6. If VSA, HSA, and ESS are now standard on the VX then that's good news. That means they actually improved it over a year ago.

      Delete
    7. Whoa. I double checked...Jazz VX does have VSA, HSA, and ESS as standard even from before. So I guess the VX is better value than VX+.

      Delete
    8. Totz 6 airbags is good for that amount, it makes your family/friends/passenger/you safer, its better to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it.

      Delete
    9. Sir uly, yup i think those are already standard in the jazz vx variant. I was also confused at first since VX and VX+ variants should have the same specs in different cars. But i also noticed the upgrade from VX to VX+ variant in the City is about 90k compared to the Jazz which is 40k. I think the price goes to the VSA HSA ESS, etc.

As for the 6 airbags, I do think 40k is worth it for the 4 additional airbags if you have a family. But for a solo driver, I'd rather spend the 40k on the Modulo kits than 4 airbags :D though that's my opinion :D

      Delete
    10. Yeah...I saw that in the old Jazz article. My bad.

And you're right. The specs between the Jazz VX/VX+ and City VX/VX+ are confusing. But thanks for pointing that out.

The way I see it is I prefer to spend on things like ABS, VSA (active safety features) compared to passive safety features. I agree that I'll likely fork out P 40,000 for the additional 4 airbags, but since I can get the VSA, HSA, and ESS on the Jazz VX, I can live with that.

But...P 40,000 isn't much. If you can spring for it to get the additional airbags, why not. Else, ask for an additional discount...who knows...you might be able to get the VX+ close to the price of a VX!

    11. Any news when will Jazz have the Navi system?

    12. Sir Uly which has more legroom hiproom and shoulder room the Honda City or Jazz?

      Delete
    13. I'd say roughly the same, but for some reason...I prefer the rear seats of the City. I don't know if it has to do with the fixed bench or something, but they feel more comfortable over the Jazz.

      Delete
    14. thanks sir uly, I think the jazz is perfect for me kasi you can fold the seats and good for cargo. I just wished that mobilio and avanza had this long mode and tall mode like honda jazz

      Delete
    15. Honda City vs Honda Jazz... I hate to say this but the City feels more solid to me than the Jazz. Try checking out the doors between the two. Jazz doors feels like that of a Brio, while City doors feels like that of an Accord.

  5. Hi Sir Uly,

Does adding mugen package on the current city will make the car "lowered"

    1. If you're going to buy the Honda City Vx, get the Mazda 2 R, not the V. The R variant has the most value, more advanced vehicle than the Honda City and has more cool stuff(HUD,off white leather seats or black leather with red stripes, more advanced infotainment system, etc.) But if you have a family, get the Honda City because it is more spacious than the Mazda 2.

    1. As mileage goes up, so as the kpl. Pag brand-new kasi the engine is still adjusting that's why kpl is lower. There are also other factors to consider like tire pressure (check mo rin), driving habit, AC, and car load.

    1. Hi Wendy,

That's quite true. White is actually quite hard to maintain especially if it's exposed to our harsh sun for a long time. The main problem is that the dulling rating differs between the metal and plastic parts. This is the reason why some older white cars will have bumpers that look more yellowish compared to their paint.

Detailing them regularly will slow down the process, but it's not reversible. Think of it as UV damage.

      Delete
    2. Copy that, sir Uly. So, palagay nyo po, kung hindi nalng white ang kukunin, ano po kaya 2nd best color for the VX+? Yung opinyon nyo po. Magkaron lang po ako ng basis sa decision-making. Hehe. Thanks in advance for ur time, sir Uly. Mabuhay po! :)

    3. For me, vehicle color is a matter of taste. If you want easiest maintenance, go with silver. It's boring for sure, pero that's the most painless to match in case you need to repaint it and it also hides dirt or scratches quite well.

      Delete
  56. Hmmm... I'll take note of that. Thank u so much for ur quick response, sir Uly. God bless. :)
