Tokyo Motor Show 2015: Mitsubishi eX Concept is Future EV Crossover

Mitsubishi is holding the global premiere of their brand-new concept car at the 44th Tokyo Motor Show this end of October. The eX Concept is a brand-new compact crossover that’s designed for the urban environment while keeping some design elements of a shooting brake. Though it’s purely a design concept for now, the eX Concept does preview future design elements as well as technology for Mitsubishi.

Outside, it has a tight, single body form that evokes the feeling that it’s been carved from a single block. Upfront, it has the latest iteration of the Dynamic Shield front-end design. It’s so-called because the shield is meant to exhibit the protection given to both occupants and pedestrians alike. Inside, the pillar-less doors make it easy to get in and out of while the use of the actual frame structure covered with soft-touch materials cut the eX Concept’s weight.

It also debuts new driving technologies that may one day make it to future Mitsubishi models. This includes AR Windshield that uses augmented reality technology to reduce driver eye movement while on the road; an Intelligent Display which can link itself to smart phones or PCs (via the cloud) to provide navigation data; side and rear view monitors that replace conventional mirrors and reduce blindspots.

Underneath, the all-electric eX Concept uses a high-capacity, high-performance battery together with compact high-output motors (94 horsepower front, 94 horsepower rear). It features Twin Motor 4WD and S-AWC to help provide handling while still keeping the range at 400 kilometers.

Apart from the eX Concept, Mitsubishi will be showing off the Outlander PHEV, Outlander PHEV Baja Portalegre 500 Rally Car, i-MiEV, and most notably, a clean-diesel version of the Pajero.
