UPDATED: Suzuki Philippines Updates Ertiga for 2016 (w/ Specs)

UPDATE 1: We included the official press statement and a rear shot below (5/11).

Fans of Suzuki’s fast-selling Ertiga are in for a treat as it gets a minor refresh this 2016. Dubbed the “Life Utility Vehicle” or LUV, the Ertiga has become an integral part of Suzuki Philippines’s line-up. And now, after two or so years in the market, it gets a refreshed look. Along with more interior features, there’s certainly more to like with this small MPV.

Mechanically unchanged from before, the 2016 Ertiga rocks Suzuki’s new corporate face. The longer and wider grille, along with the re-designed front bumper, does it part to differentiate it further from the Swift on which it’s based on. New alloy wheels and a revamped tailgate complete the changes.

Inside, there’s more luxury features, though the majority of them are found in mid and high trim models. The GL variant, for instance, gets a standard multimedia touch screen audio unit and a 50/50 split-folding third row while the GLX adds more features like a push button engine start/stop, Android OS audio head unit with mirroring capability, and reverse parking sensors.

The 2016 Ertiga also introduces a new mid-grade A/T variant: the GL 1.4 A/T. This is only the second variant of the Ertiga to come equipped with the 4-speed automatic after the GLX 1.4 A/T.

It comes with a palette of colors: Snow White Pearl, Silky Silver Metallic, Graphite Grey Pearl Metallic, Cool Black Pearl Metallic, Radiant Red Pearl, and Burgundy Red Pearl.

All these improvements also come with a price increase (2015 model in parenthesis):
  • GA 1.4 M/T – P 665,000 (P 619,000)
  • GL 1.4 M/T – P 759,000 (P 712,000)
  • GL 1.4 A/T – P 799,000 (new model)
  • GLX 1.4 A/T – P 918,000 (P 812,000)

Press Release:
Welcome the New Suzuki Ertiga, Now With More Reasons to LUV Compact Cars

Compact multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) lovers have an exciting reason to celebrate as Suzuki Philippines announces the arrival of the upgraded 2016 Suzuki Ertiga. The newest version of the well-loved Ertiga, which is one of the bestsellers of the Japanese automotive company, combines the maneuverability and agility of a compact car and the spaciousness of a family car with its 7-seater capacity. No wonder this sleek beauty has been dubbed a Life Utility Vehicle (LUV).

New features and technologies define the new 2016 Ertiga, which also exudes a more sophisticated exterior compared to its predecessor. Those going for the GL or GLX variants will find  a new triple-slat chrome grille that stretches sideways all the way to the headlamps, and a new front bumper with smaller air-dam and fresh fog lamp trims. The body-colored electric folding side mirrors with integrated signal lamps, the chrome tailgate garnish, and the tail light extension at the rear make the Ertiga look bolder and more aggressive. An unlock button is also available for the GLX variant.

Apart from these, new 15” alloy wheel designs (for GL and GLX) and 15” steel wheels with full hub caps (for GA variant) complete the impressive exteriors of the new Ertiga iteration. There’s a spare standard wheel included for all variants.

The interior updates also bring exciting news. The driver can enjoy the multimedia Android touch screen, Bluetooth, wifi, and USB connectivity with hands-free function. Offline navigation is optional. Audio and hands-free switches are embedded in the GLX variant’s steering wheel to facilitate easy access to various tasks. The rear seats are now 50:50 split folding, thus improving the versatility of the MPV. Additionally, the keyless push start system and reverse sensor with on/off switches make driving a truly comfortable experience.

A smart, great value, multi-function choice with class-leading fuel efficiency and up-to-speed features, the new Ertiga is the perfect MPV for every Filipino family.

Suzuki Philippines General Manager for Automobile Shuzo Hoshikura proudly shared, “Amid the great demand for a new version, we decided to bring in the refreshed 2016 Ertiga because we want Filipino families to experience its best-in-class innovations designed for comfort and style.”

Mr. Hoshikura added, “The arrival of the new Ciaz in April this year, and the new, amped-up edition of the Ertiga are testaments to our commitment to continue innovating and manufacturing cars that meet the needs and expectations of our customers. In particular, compact vehicles are what we are passionate about, and we are determined to hold leadership in that category."

The 2016 Ertiga comes in 4 variants: the Ertiga GA Manual Transmission with prices starting at P 665,000; the GL Manual Transmission (P 759,000); the GL Automatic Transmission (P 799,000) and the GLX Automatic Transmission (P 918,000), all of which are already available in all Suzuki dealerships nationwide.  Choose from Silky Silver Metallic, Graphite Gray Pearl Metallic, Prime Cool Black, Pearl Radiant Red, Pearl Burgundy Red and Pearl Snow White.

    1. Test drive it before you say lame. Compared to Avanza's 4AT and Spin's 6AT, Ertiga'a "lame" 4-speed auto tranny is able to deliver smoother drive without compromising fuel economy.

    2. What about the mobilio? Its 5 speed and it has a 1.5L engine. 4 speed are so lame and old fashioned.

    3. I've driven a 4-speed gated A/T on a Gen 1 Swift. Nothing lame about the transmission at all. Only a lousy driver will judge a car's performance based solely on the number of gears.

    4. 4 Speed auto is still the most reliable.

    6. Maybe price difference of latest automatic transmission is not cost effective for an ENTRY LEVEL MPV... Siguro in the next 3 to 5 years baka maging standard na sa segment na ito.

    9. You call it lame and outdated? Well as long as it works and its affordable. Its always welcome to people who can't afford expensive up to date vehicles. Besides, the Suzuki Ertiga offers a smooth tranny despite using an "outdated system". Most people who choose the Ertiga are family oriented people who cares more about getting the most out of every penny that they spend. As long as its got the standard safety features such as dual airbags, ABS and all the other basics covered its fine. And who are you to judge those who choose this vehicle? Bakit kayo ba mag babayad ng monthly nila para sa kanila? The Suzuki Ertiga offers buyers all the necessary features one will need in a basic family vehicle nothing more nothing less. They're not flashy and they don't come with unnecessary luxuries. But we certainly appreciate what Suzuki has brought to the table. It offers us buyers an option to get out of the cage built by the more popular brands so they can control the market and keep price tags high on cars that offer less. Making you spend more on adding options that should have already been included in the first place so they can make more money. Imagine how stupid it would be to spend another 50-100k just for changing the seat cover, or for changing the head unit, or for simply opting for an additional rear wiper, or just for the additional valve and so on. In the U.S. and other countries. A basic unit comes with complete options for the same price as our base models here that offer way less here. Well that was before less popular brands like Suzuki stepped up and gave the bigger brands a run for their money. Another thing we don't need anything more than a hundred horse power when driving in city roads, and no more than 150 hp for out of town trips. Here in our country more horsepower more often than not translates to more road accidents. Given the very low level of driving skills and poor judgement our motorists have. :)

    2. Don't be fooled by Avanza's 1.5 engine versus Ertiga's "small" 1.4 engine. The advantage of Avanza's engine is just on paper. Check their respective reviews and you will know. Ertiga's 1.4 engine is very capable and willing.

  5. I'm planning to buy an Ertiga this year but with that kind of price increase just for facelift, i'll just go with Avanza: Facelift plus dual vvti plus resale value

    1. correct sir.. the avanza looks better.. and more reliable considering it is toyota (though it is really daihatsu).. plus the resale value.. also, there are bad experiences with suzuki vehicles I see on youtube and online (for example the customer who complained his alto has an "ugong" engine [you can search for it]..or actually from a friend.. he bought the original celerio and noticed that the brake was "deep." He told the suzuki staff about this but was told it is/was "normal."

      Delete
    2. Correction sir. Suzuki is a well known and respected brand in Japan. They also make vehicles with good quality. Sometimes even better because of the bang for the buck factor. I own an Ertiga GL. If you are the type of person who would find the Swift attractive. Then the Ertiga would definitely look attractive too. At least the Ertiga is a Suzuki original. And not a subcontracted vehicle. Badge may be a Toyota but build quality is that of a Daihatsu. So you can't really say that the Avanza is that reliable. Daihatsu cars breakdown quite often when they reach 4-5 years. Now for the price jump I don't think its merely for the facelift. I went to the showroom to check the updated units myself. And pretty much a lot was added to it. Even the seat fabrics changed and feel much better to the touch. I believe the engine has also been modified to be more fuel efficient than the previous model. Now about the issues regarding complaints about Suzuki dealers. It happens to all car brands. Like when we purchased our Ford Eco Sport. We were so disappointed with the Ford Dealership that we went to. Hindi accommodating yung manager nung agent kasi given the fact na nabayaran na namin yung unit mas inuna pa niyang mag secure ng unit para dun sa reservation pa lang yung binibigay. Tapos pinagtatanggol pa niya ginawa niya nung nag complain kami. But that's another story. Nasa dealership lang talaga yan. I'd say do your research din bago bumili. Look for the dealerships that the corresponding car clubs recommend. For Suzuki maganda ang service sa Suzuki East Ave. For issues like unnusual sounds in the engine etc. In my case pag may napapansin akong kakaiba sa sasakyan I just tell them at ther chat group. And they ask me to bring the car to the casa. And its free of charge. They check the car and adjust what needs to be adjusted. So far wala akong marereklamo sa Suzuki East Ave. May emergency response team pa nga yan sila. Kasi when my stock battery ran out nasa 4th level ako ng parking sa Mega Mall. Nag message lang ako sa dealership chat group kasi I was asking advice on what to do and to my surprise they told me to wait for their rescue team. And 45 minutes later dumating nga sila para ijump start yung sasakyan tapos kinonvoyan pa ako papunta sa casa para duon palitan ng battery. Eto so far ang experience ko with Suzuki. And it has been nothing but good experiences.

    3. wow sir, ok pala yung dealer dyan sa east ave.. i am palnning to purchase GL manual this coming march 2017.. pero sir is it true the parts are quite expensive and hard to find, some says ino order pa daw so you will have to wait atleast a week

    4. You need to study the fuel consumption of the Toyota Avanza with its dual VVTi engine. Not really good if it can only average 7km/liter on city driving and 10km/liter on the highway. The Ertiga can consume 11km/liter on city drives and 16km/liter on highway drives. For the looks, Ertiga has more style both in and out.

  6. Sir Uly, this is out from the topic but can you share something about the future of Suzuki Jimny? i dont mind even if its only a rumor or not, i'll accept both :)

    ReplyDelete
  7. Ok na ako sa increase. Push start, android HU, may steering control pa oks na ok.

Sa driving, its not the number of gears.. Driven 4 5 6 7 speed na auto same cruising speed, around 80-100. Ayaw ko lang sa madaming gears na AT ung "gear hunting" ng trans sa heavy traffic, nakakairita. Nasa ratio parin yan at pag match sa makina matulin rin

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well said, number of gears doesn't matter, they just squeezed in extra numbers of gears but at the end it is actually the drive train ratio.

Our fuel consumption from Laoag City to Oasis Restaurant in San Fernando, La Union was P400.00 (more or less 200 kms) with an average speed of 70 kph. 6 po lahat kami (4 adults & 2 kids + the baggages that we have). Fuel efficiency, Engine power & Suspension e ok na ok po siya. And also, the offline Navi helped us a lot in Baguio. Saka lang po lumakas ang consumption niya when we were already in Baguio due to its terrain pero saka na lang kami nag-refuel noong nasa Cabugao, Ilocos Sur na kami pabalik sa Ilocos Norte. 42. Long dormant thread, but reading through it I can conclude that most people are concerned about the spare parts.

If you take good care of a car, any car for that mayter, then you shouln't need parts beyond the regular consummable/wear and tear items that dealers stock up on.

I believe Ertiga is made in Indonesia, so perhaps no too far (unlike the Swift, which I think is imported from Maruti in India).

Ultimately, if people buy enough of the thing, then Suzuki PH will have to make sure that there are enough parts for the units in service.
