Honda Cars Philippines Did Well in Recent DOE Fuel Economy Run

If there’s any more reason to reiterate it further, Honda Cars Philippines has done pretty well for itself during the first-ever Euro 4 fuel economy run staged by the Department of Energy (DOE) with the help of fuel leader, Petron.

Honda entered seven vehicles into the fuel economy run: City, Civic, Mobilio, HR-V, Jazz, CR-V, Brio, and Brio Amaze. And even before flagging off the 280-kilometer trip through highway roads, HCPI predicted that no vehicle will do less than 20 km/L. Remarkably, this held true as Honda Cars Philippines achieved a 25.1 km/L average corporate fuel economy reading—one of the best in the country.

Broken down further, the Honda Jazz 1.5 VX gathered 28.6 km/L making it the most fuel efficient Honda vehicle as well as being best in class. The all-new Civic RS Turbo registered an impressive 27.56 km/L while the City got 26.02 km/L. The Mobilio achieved 24.69 km/L; the HR-V, 24.82 km/L; the CR-V 20.59 km/L; Brio, 24.78 km/L, and the Brio Amaze at 23.77 km/L.

As early as 2004, HCPI started introducing EURO 4 ready products in the Philippines. By September 2015, HCPI was first among automotive brands to obtain EURO 4 certification from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for its locally manufactured and imported vehicles. As stated by HCPI President and General Manager, Toshio Kuwahara, “It has always been one of HCPI’s thrusts to leave blue skies for our children, which is why Honda products are produced with the most consideration on the environment and its users. Moreover, in the midst of the increasing fuel costs, Honda believes that the new technologies and advancements in its engines promotes fuel efficiency and help its consumers save on resources for other essential commodities”.

  2. Hi, why does the motoring media give attention to this "fuel run" when it clearly did not involve real or actual driving conditions? If anything, consumers, whom the media is suppose to protect, will only be mislead into believing that these cars can perform the numbers reflected in the "fuel run"?
This is misleading and car manufacturers will clearly stamp these results in their advertisements, given the public the impression that these results are achievable, which is entirely false. In other words, why even glorify or write about a fuel run that is completely detached from reality. Am I wrong or missing the bigger picture?

    1. Actually, if you read the conditions of the fuel economy run

The figures aren't without basis. That's the reason why I had to map out their methodology in coming up with these figures.

That being said, I agree that not everyone will achieve these kinds of fuel economy figures. I guess it's more of proof that they can.

  4. Hi, yes i'm not doubting the methodology or the transparency of the conditions on which these figures were achieved. All Im saying is, what is this data for? Almost anything can be achieved under controlled conditions. My question is, as consumers, what can we benefit from these results? Nobody can replicate the conditions under which the mileage figures were obtained? So safe to say the data, no matter how great or achievable, is useless. So why do you guys even write about it. Why not criticize the DOE and Petron for holding a useless and misleading exercise?

    1. Well, I believe it's the start to coming up with a standard measure of fuel economy.

Both the Department of Energy and Petron believe there's still work to be done in terms of coming up with more realistic figures... But we're getting there.

I mean, even the EPA fuel economy figures are hard to replicate in real world conditions.

  5. Its only a matter of time that car companies are going to publish these figures beside their products. This is misleading. While car companies can make a disclaimer/footnote that these figures were obtained during a "fuel economy run", the deceitful intent has already been accomplished with respect to the general public who are naive, and I think the motoring media of all people, should not patronize this fraudulent and false assertion.

    1. The plan is actually to come up with a standardized fuel economy standard which will end up with vehicles being sold with a window sticker stating fuel efficiency.

This is the same sort of standard the EPA does in the USA and the JC08 standard in Japan.

  6. This a good basis for us to know the potential of the vehicles. Yes, This is not the real world driving conditions but it's a good equal ground for all types of vehicles. The same road conditions, fuel & speed. Dito mo makikita na kahit 80kph lang takbo ng auto without traffic. Malakas pa din sa gas. Lalo na siguro sa actual road conditions.

  7. HI Uly, do you know how the civic 1.8 would fare on this kind of test? thanks!

  8. Walang sinabi yang mga yan sa ISUZU CROSSWIND.

  9. These figures are a driver's dream. Under controlled conditions and driving an out-of-the-box car can achieve this. But even if you're driving in an expressway sans traffic at 80 kph a new vehicle no matter what brand would take a miracle to achieve such staggering figures.

  10. Kalokohan to! 280km tapos 80kph.baket inabot ng six hours, kahit isama mo pa yung "quick bathroom breaks" nila.

    1. Ay wag kang ganyan bro. Pagagalitan ka ni mazda fanboy. Sasabihin niyang reliable ang mazda. Ikaw sisisihin niyan. Baka sasabihin nun na negligent ka pa. Hahaha.

Tapos may kung anu-ano pang skyactiv at fun to drive na nalalaman yun.

    2. Hmm, pareho din experience namin with Mitsu Mirage G4 ni misis-- nasunugan din kami spark plugs while using Petron. Tas parang galit na galit na yung makina ang bagal pa din. Switched to Shell and Caltex, ayun mas swabe na takbo.
Tried Shell diesel on my strada and mukhang mas ok din-- mas tahimik makina and ok ang hatak.

Ano kaya nasa Petron? Baka PR stunt lang 'tong full efficiency run.
