PIMS 2016: Toyota Set to Unveil More Evocative Prius

Toyota Motor Philippines is finally launching the fourth-generation Prius for the local market. Featuring evocative styling, improved driving dynamics, and a fuel economy north of 40.8 km/L, the Prius will take center stage at the country’s number one automaker’s pavilion this coming Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS).

Codenamed the XW50, the all-new Prius represents an important vehicle in Toyota’s future. It’s the first vehicle to be underpinned by the brand’s Toyota New Global Architecture or TNGA platform, an innovative, integrated development program for powertrain components and vehicle platforms. The TNGA platform allows the Prius to have a lower center of gravity and increased structural rigidity. Torsional rigidity is up 60 percent compared to the previous model while an all-new double wishbone suspension allows for improved handling.

Apart from the all-new platform, the 2017 Prius also features a new engine with a maximum thermal efficiency of 40 percent as well as a more compact and lightweight hybrid system that incorporates key components such as motors, transaxle, power control unit, and hybrid batteries. The Prius generates a combined output of 121 horsepower with 95 horsepower being contributed by the 1.8-liter motor. Peak torque is 142 Nm.

Inside, Toyota promises that the all-new Prius will have a “warmer” interior along with more space and improved ergonomics.

Aside from the all-new Prius, Toyota is also expected to display the Dual VVT-i powered Vios and Yaris as well as the refreshed Toyota 86 which will bow in a week before PIMS.
