CAGI Awards Honda Civic RS Turbo, Isuzu D-Max as Country's Best Vehicles

72 eligible vehicles, but only one took home the ultimate prize: the 2016 Car of the Year – Philippines. Organized by the Car Awards Group, Inc. (CAGI), which this website isn’t a part of, bestowed that title to the Honda Civic RS Turbo. And for truck lovers out there, CAGI has given the 2016 Truck of the Year – Philippines to the Isuzu D-Max 3.0 4x2 LS A/T.

The Mazda6 Sports Wagon was the first runner-up followed by the Mazda6 Skyactiv-D sedan as second runner-up.

Though Honda and Isuzu walked away with the top prize and a large, handsome glass trophy, there were 19 other categories up for grabs.

Here’s the full list of winners, each one receiving a small glass trophy for their display case:
  • Commercial Utility Vehicle: Suzuki Super Carry Utility Van DDiS Turbo Diesel
  • Subcompact Car: Suzuki Ciaz 1.4 M/T
  • Compact Car: Honda Civic RS Turbo

Aside from that, CAGI’s sponsors had the chance to pick the recipients of some special awards and these went to:
  • Nuvali Green Car:  Honda Legend 3.5 Sports Hybrid SH-AWD
  • Motolite Class M: Hyundai Tucson CRDi GLS 2WD
  • Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation Best Safety: Volkswagen Passat 2.0 TSI Business Edition
  • Speedlab Tuner’s Choice: Honda Civic RS Turbo
  • Manila International Auto Show Best Design: Nissan GT-R
A quick rundown of the different category winners as well as the special awards, it’s obvious that several brands walked away empty-handed this year. Notably absent from the winner’s circle this year include brands like Chevrolet, Ford, Kia, Subaru, and Toyota. Pretty sure the Christmas party at those brands won’t be as festive.

Now that the search for the Car of the Year – Philippines and Truck of the Year – Philippines is over, what do you think of the results? Let us know in the comments below.

  3. The Civic? The quality of the interior materials are cheap as hell, even the leather seats are of low quality. The under chassis is also not that polished. The quality is not worth the price. The dash design is cool though.

    1. Also, the CVT drone is horrible.

    2. Mga bitter! Di kasi nanalo ang mazda niyo! Sore losers!

    3. how you say it's cheap plastic quality? any basis for comparison? price and data sheet?

    4. The mazda 3 won when it was launched. And As for the cheap plastic quality, apparently, you haven't test drove or even sat in the Honda Civic RS 2016. Try sitting in one and then sitting in a Mazda 3, you'll see the difference. Cheap hard plastics in a 1.4m car? And the leather seats feel cheap too. I would have bought the Civic if the plastic and leather quality are on par with the Mazda 3.

    5. this is the problem when we don't have any price and data to compare. judging by sitting and trying is very subjective and is solely based on "perception". i have sat and tried on both units and honestly the feel is same.

    6. I know the prices and the data of both, and its not only by perception. You feel the same? lol. When I sat in the Honda Civic, yes it feels spacious but as a quality conscious guy, I didn't liked the leather and plastic quality inside the cabin. When I test drove one, its fast but it feels dead, it feels like an appliance, a commuter car. Its not just me, I have the same feedback with other people complaining about the plastic and leather quality in the Honda Civic, its just not simply acceptable for a 1.4m car. Also, there are different grades of leather if you don't know.

    7. Don't argue with honda fanboys, they want an appliance car anyway.

    8. Don't argue with mazda fanboys too. Puro fun to drive at "premium" feel lang laman ng mga utak niyan.

    9. The mazda 3 is not just fun to drive, it has practicality and efficiency that the civic has, but it has what the civic lacks, which is driving dynamics. Premium feel? It's tangible , not intangible. Also, honda fanboys only have the intangible "prestige" of the honda badge and the resale value, parts kuno. So you buy the civic just to sell it or wait for it to break down, nice logic you have there. Also, Mazda got free PMS, which Honda doesn't have. People who buy Mazda's buy the car for the experience and the car itself, not just to sell it or worry about parts.

See? Perfect example of a stereotypical mazda fanboy. Predictable as ever.

    11. appliance car daw. it won best car of the year for a reason. i highly doubt any of this fangays own a car. just be quiet and enjoy your car if you ever have "one"

    12. yeah civic owners also has their own reasons for buying it. driving dynamics, power, design etc etc. People who buy the civic buy the car for the experience and the car itself too. so stop preaching shit and just be quiet and accept the civic won the best car of year.

    13. The civic is a good commuter car, its fast as well, but it lacks the driving dynamics which makes you smile whenever you find clear roads and the plastic quality is not worth it for the price. I have no qualms to it being the best car of the year though.

      Delete
    14. No qualms? Yet you're whining? That seems contradictory.

    15. Maybe the experience civic owners wants to get is,to see every 3s on the open road getting smoked. Lol. How can you have fun when all turbo rs civics overtakes you on the "open road". All you can do is "smile" lol

      Delete
    16. Yup. When civics overtake their mazda 3, all they can do is rub the supposedly "premium" materials and weep silently.

      Delete
    17. Getting smoked? Race in the track, not on the road. Still, The Civic has 19hp more than the Mazda 3, faster by a second. I give the Civic that one, but most of the time you're stuck in traffic in the city. I prefer a more premium cockpit than a cockpit filled with hard plastic in the price range of 1.4m. You boy racers can race around on the open road without exciting feeling that you're already past 100kmph while I can still have fun on any speed. And, the Mazda 3 2.0 is no slouch.

      Delete
    18. The civic's handling is no slouch either. Mazda's interior are also riddled with plastics. You ain't fooling anyone.

      Delete
    19. The civic's handling is good, but its a point and shoot car. The mazda 3's handling the best in class. Mazda's interior plastics have a softer and better texture plastic material than the Civic's fake leather patterned hard plastics.

  4. i think this is based on sales rather than quality...the cheaper SUVs gets the buck
