Toyota Motor Philippines Gives 2017 Corolla Altis an A-List Update (w/ Photos, Specs, Prices)

Just in time for its 50th birthday, Toyota Motor Philippines is giving its best-selling Corolla Altis compact sedan an A-List makeover for the 2017 model year. Already boasting qualities like reliability and durability, the new Corolla Altis can now add sporty style and top-notch safety to its list of strong qualities.

The changes first start with the aesthetics. Refining Toyota’s trademark “Keen Look” and “Under Prority” design, the 2017 Corolla Altis’s new face is visually bolder, stronger, and wider. Credit goes to the new headlights (incorporating Daytime Running Lights or DRLs across the line-up), bumper, and grille. Apart from the strong and wider look, it also smoothens out the Corolla Altis’s appearance. More changes are found in the wheels with new designs (same sizes) and new rear combination lamps.

Inside, the asymmetrical dash of the Corolla Altis has been re-worked and features materials that uplift the cabin feel both visually and tactilely. A new soft-touch leather insert now runs across the entire length of the dashboard capped off at each end with rounded air conditioning vents. Meanwhile, the center console has been reworked, incorporating the new infotainment system and climate control.

Mechanically, the Corolla Altis remains unchanged for 2017. The range-topping 2.0V is powered by a 2.0-liter DOHC 16-valve engine with a variable length intake system (Acoustic  Control Induction System or ACIS) while the 1.6V, 1.6G, and 1.6E all use  a 1.6-liter DOHC 16-valve engine. The larger engine maxes out at 145 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 187 Nm of torque at 3,600 rpm while the smaller one does 122 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 154 Nm of torque at 5,200 rpm. The transmission options remain a CVT or 6-speed manual depending on the variant.

While there are no changes under the hood, the 2017 Corolla Altis is bound to be the safest car in its class. Already lauded at the ASEAN NCAP Grand Prix 2016 as a “Rising Star” for safety, the new Corolla Altis boasts of 7 airbags (driver, passenger, side, curtain, and driver’s knee), anti-lock brakes (ABS), and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) as standard equipment.

The new Toyota Corolla Altis comes in seven colors: Super White (1.6G and 1.6E only), Silver Metallic, Gray Metallic, Attitude Black, Red Mica Metallic, and its newest shade, Phantom Brown Metallic. A White Pearl color is also available for an additional P 15,000 on the 1.6V and 2.0V.

There are five variants of the 2017 Corolla Altis with the following SRPs:
  • 1.6E M/T – P 894,000
  • 1.6G M/T – P 934,000
  • 1.6G A/T – P 990,000
  • 1.6V A/T – P 1,074,000
  • 2.0V A/T – P 1,318,000
The new Corolla Altis will be available at all 51 Toyota dealerships nationwide starting on Wednesday, December 14, 2016.

  1. Safe, reliable, pedestrian and boring. Yep, typical Toyota. The Civic, Mazda 3, and the Focus are still on top.

    1. Toyota and Civic...CVTs...MEH! Transmission for senior citizens

FORD Focus = Fix Or Repair Daily

Mazda3 good but not reliable long-term over 5 years.

  2. Good for Toyota to include the full suite of safety system as standard even in the base model. I hope this move will influence other carmakes to do the same in their entry level models.

  3. Nice. It comes with a full set of airbags for all models. That should be the case for most if not all nowadays.

  6. The 2.0 is way overpriced. I think the best value here is the G model, particularly the manual.

    1. Mas mura lang sana pag walang bodykits. nsa P1,280,000 ang 2.0 V pag walang bodykits.

    2. They never sold the 2.0 without a body kit AFAIK.

  7. Altis looks great compared to the version from five years ago. It trumps other compacts because of the available manual transmission but only with the 1.6L version. If only the 2.0L has MT

    1. Forester and XV have CVT transmissions. Mine got stuck in reverse. Subaru has very bad service.

  10. For the price of the 2.0V, you can get a Mazda 3 or a Civic with a few more bucks. I do hope their new engine line arrives soon. Still, can't beat Toyota reliability.

And for those saying that CVTs is for senior citizens, no. They just prioritize fuel efficiency over, "road feel." As a driver, I much rather drive a Ford Focus or a Mazda3. As a father who uses his own money for gas and maintenance and prioritizes getting his children from A to Be, the Civic and the Corolla it is.

  15. It's my 5th year with my altis bought last Jan. 2017, and the car is reliable with its safety features. Easy to steer and maneuver and had never once bogged down. Great sounds too. Even with long distances, driving is always enjoyable and a pleasure.
