MG Philippines Launches Refreshed MG3 Sub-Compact

Morris Garages Philippines just launched an updated version of their sub-compact hatchback, the MG3. Packed with more convenience features, it is aimed at a wide range of customers. More than anything, it offers distinctive British style at an affordable price.

Designed by MG’s UK Technical Centre, the MG3 features a unique front-end design thanks to the thin, horizontal upper grille that’s split in the middle by the MG shield and flanked on both sides by the large headlights. It’s capped off by the LED daytime running lights. Over to the side, the MG3 is characterized by “Brit Duo Styling”, which is MG-speak for a contrasting roof color and contrasting side skirt. At the back, there’s a new rear spoiler as well. The changes for 2017 are completed by 16-inch alloy wheels (195/55 R 16) at each corner and a standard power moonroof.

Inside, the MG3 emphasizes “sporty functionality” with its straightforward and no-nonsense cockpit. Still, look beyond the plainness and it does come with vertically resting gauges, steering wheel-mounted controls for the audio, and a full-featured entertainment system with Bluetooth. It also comes with a 60/40 split-folding rear seat which increases cargo space when needed.

For 2017, the MG3 comes in a single variant and it’s powered by a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. This Euro-4 compliant engine pushes out a respectable 106 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 137 Nm of torque at 4,750 rpm. It is enough to launch this 5-speed manual hatchback to 100 km/h in 10.4 seconds. And typical of this class, the MG3 rides on a front MacPherson Strut and rear Torsion Beam Axle suspension (with European tuning, naturally). Steering remains hydraulically assisted.

Built on the concept of USD or Ultimate Stiffness Design, the MG3 passes European safety standards. It has 3-pt seatbelts and adjustable headrests for all 5 occupants. ABS with EBD is standard and so is Dual SRS airbags.

The 2017 MG3 1.5 COM M/T is now on sale at a price of P 777,777.

Morris Garages Philippines is located at the Ground Floor of Midway Court Building, EDSA Greenhills, Mandaluyong.

  1. So this is like a Chevy Sonic/Honda Jazz, or a bigger Chevy Spark/Hyundai Eon?

  4. Haven't seen any MG cars on the streets since their operation. Mas madami pang Tata. Because it's made in China? I wonder why...

  5. Buying and maintaining a car requires a lot of money. A sensible person wouldn't invest in an unknown second rate money-pit of a car.
