Volkswagen Philippines Gives Golf GTI Power to Hunt the Civic Type R, Subaru WRX STI

Volkswagen Philippines is now offering its “ultimate sportsman” with much more bite. Often considered as a “speak softly, carry big stick” type of car, the Golf GTI is shaping up to be ferocious enough to take on the Honda Civic Type R and Subaru WRX STI.

Fitted with the ABT Power-Up module, this special Golf GTI ABT receives a 32 percent increase in power (290 horsepower from 220 horsepower) and 20 percent in torque (420 Nm from 350 Nm). The plug-and-play system reduces the Golf GTI’s 0-100 km/h to just 5.9 seconds (from 6.5 seconds) while top speed has gone up to 254 km/h (from 244 km/h).

The tuning module comes from ABT Sportsline of Germany, Volkswagen’s exclusive tuning partner. As a result, the bump in performance does not effect the Golf GTI’s emissions or warranty.

Communicating the Golf GTI ABT’s newfound performance, Volkswagen Philippines is also offering the ABT body kits separately. This includes a new front grille, headlamp cover, front spoiler, side skirts, rear skirt set with rear diffuser and quad tailpipe, and rear muffler mounting kit. The wheels have also gone up to 235/30 R 20s from the standard 225/40 R 18s.

Furthermore, the ABT Power-Up module can be retrofitted to owners of current Golf GTIs at the cost of P 145,000 with installation. Meanwhile, those opting for a brand-new Golf GTI can get the Power-Up module and ABT body kit for P 2,851,688 which is actually comparable to that of its Japanese rivals.

If all this is a bit much, Volkswagen is also offering a full range of lifestyle products and accessories at their exclusive Golf GTI Lifestyle Center. First launched at Volkswagen Quezon Avenue, customers may purchase items such as shirts, jackets, toy cars, cups and mugs, and bags.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI ABT is available for viewing at Volkswagen Quezon Avenue which is located at 1129 Quezon Avenue, Quezon City. Customers may also contact them directly at: 63 2 958 0570, 63 2 558 5818, 63 917 501 7677, and 63 919 912 7750.

  1. Volkswagen GmbH do not have any official tuning partners. The nearest Volkswagen officially have as "tuning" is Volkswagen R GmbH.

Many importers choose to cooperate with reputable tuners such as Abt and Oettinger. This is a decision of the national importer and is not sanctioned by Wolfsburg.
