This is What a P 10-Million Toyota Land Cruiser Looks Like (w/ 20 Photos)
Many have considered the Toyota Land Cruiser, especially the J40-series, to be the quintessential Japanese off-roader. And now, The FJ Company, a Miami, USA and Bogota, Columbia-based company just released their ultimate “resto-mod” FJ40 Signature.
As a bit of a background, The FJ Company is a passion project born out the love for these venerable old-school SUVs. They search the world over for Land Cruisers (1959-1992) with limited rust and straight chassis. After that, they sent these vehicles to Bogota where the bulk of the restoration is done before the finishing touches are applied in Miami.
The FJ Company strips the vehicle, overhauls the engine, redoes the suspension and even the brakes.
Once in a while though, they receive requests for a “21st century” upgrade. These resto-mod FJ40s get improved comfort and drivability with features such as Recaro leather seats, a Bluetooth-equipped stereo, and even a fuel-injection system to replace the carburetor. They even offer a 5-speed manual or automatic transmission upgrade as well. These projects take close to a year and they don’t come cheap: costing US$ 55,000 (~ P 2,835,000) to US$ 120,000 (~ P 6,185,000).
Now, at the SEMA 2017 show in Las Vegas, the FJ Company showed off their range-topping Signature build. And this one costs an eye-watering US$ 200,000 (~ P 10,310,000).
On the surface, it doesn’t look anything out of the ordinary to justify its super car price tag. Yet, considering the amount of work done on this 1981 FJ43 Land Cruiser and you can’t help but be impressed.
It’s been striped and restored to a like-new condition. It then got painted in Toyota’s Dune Beige color, but in a matte finish.
Under the hood is Toyota’s 4.0-liter V6 engine that is, fittingly enough, shared with the FJ40’s spiritual modern-day successor (the just discontinued) FJ Cruiser. The 1GR-FE engine then gets a Haltech programmable fuel injection system.
Aside from the engine, the FJ Company Signature gets CNC machined aluminum mirror and fuel filler caps, a Warn 8274 winch, and Baja Design LED fog lights. It also gets four-wheel disc brakes as well as an upgraded suspension with Fox Shox and new leaf springs from Old Man Emu.
Inside, the major controls—window levers, door handles, pedals, shifters, and pull knobs are all made from machined aluminum while heated Recaro Sportster CS seats modern-day support. The seats, rear bench, as well as door panels, shifter boot, center console, and visors are then finished in high-quality leather. The center console meanwhile integrates an Apple iPad and the controls for the air conditioning.
It seems that sky’s the limit for the venerable Toyota Land Cruiser nowadays. If you want to have your Toyota Land Cruiser restored by them (they have clients in Australia as well), you can view what The FJ Company has to offer by going to their website.
G class AMG costs $150-K and its vastly superior in every conceivable way than this
ReplyDeleteIts called vintage; old, recognized, and enduring interest, importance, or quality.
ReplyDeleteSame reason Ferrari's found in barnyards sell for more than brandnew Enzo's
Land cruisers are reliable and my dad had two of these during the 70s-80s but equating it to Ferrari is stretching it
DeleteHe's not equating, you dingbat. He's comparing it in their relativity.
