MMDA to Implement HOV Lane Starting Monday, December 11

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority or MMDA is going to divide EDSA once more. After strictly implementing the Yellow (Bus) and Blue (Motorcycle) lane for two weeks, the government agency is going to reserve the fifth lane of EDSA for High-Occupancy Vehicles or HOVs.

With a dry run slated on Monday, December 11, the HOV lane can only be used by vehicles with two or more passengers (including driver). Designating the lane beside the MRT, the HOV lane cannot be used by vehicles with just one occupant.

Although traffic enforcers are not mandated to catch erring drivers violating the HOV lane policy, once the MMDA considers the scheme effective, it will mean a P 500 fine.

  2. sharing empty place in your car with your friends or co workers to put less cars on the road.... don't you think so... just make sense !!!!

  3. semantics, or in layman's terms its literal meaning. one car with 3 passengers occupies 1/4 the road space of 4 driver-only cars, capische? and don't even bother asking how 60-seater bus WITH standing passengers compares to 60+ driver-only cars...

  4. So this scheme will ease the traffic at Edsa? Really? hope all will follow this scheme show discipline and respect on the road... and bus drivers will stay in their yellow lane and not cut off cars and other buses to other lanes... let's see

  6. It's all about strict implementation to make it work. Buses should be heavily fined for any infringements without exception as they are the main culprits and licenses suspended should violations occur.

  9. Hmmmm...

I don't know what to feel about this. Maybe the goal of this is for vehicles with 2 or more passengers to get-off EDSA quicker hence easing traffic?

EACH HAS TO MAKE THEIR OWN SACRIFICES NGA LANG.

Government should have long-term urban planning na i-implement sa buong metro. Lastly of course no coruption para tamang gastos at matapos talaga ang proyekto.

  10. The three inner lanes were already congested! HOV should be allowed to pass the yellow lane instead of giving a dedicated lane.
