Volkswagen Philippines Brings In New Golf GTS Variant for 2018

Volkswagen Philippines is now offering a new variant of its best-selling Golf GTS sports wagon, the Highline, to jump start 2018.

The Golf GTS (Grand Touring Sport) wagon body style carries the DNA of the original Golf, which has sold over 30 million units in seven generations of production, but offers 350 liters more cargo space than its hatchback version. The GTS wagon style is ideal for those who love the power and performance the Golf has been known for over the years, yet still value the comfort and space of a wagon.

The Golf GTS Highline comes with a 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine with 150 horsepower and 340 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 6-speed DSG dual clutch automatic transmission.

The Golf GTS Highline comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, and is feature-packed with the following:
  • HID headlamps with LED daytime running lights
  • Front fog lamps with static cornering lights
  • Front wiper with rain sensor
  • Electrically adjustable heated side mirrors with side turn lights
  • Two-way power adjustable backrest and manual lumbar front seats
  • Leather 3-spoke steering wheel with paddle shift and multifunction display, radio and telephone controls
  • “Keyless-Go” entry/exit with Safelock
  • 6.5-inch Composition Media touchscreen infotainment system (radio, CD, MP3, Aux-in) with Bluetooth connectivity, App Connect, and voice control, and; Fender sound system with 8 speakers and subwoofer.
The Golf GTS Highline is being offered at a starting price of P1,340,000, until pre-excise tax stocks last.

The available exterior colors are Black, Blue Silk, Night Blue Metallic, Platinum Grey, Pure White, Reflex Silver, Tornado Red, Tungsten Silver while interior colors are Titan Black and Beige.

  1. How many trims does the GTS have? Didn't this have adaptive cruise control?

  3. There were 88 units that arrived last December 2017. The releases of such started a couple of days ago. Some who had POs done last December 2017, had their units already. This might just be the last batch and if I'm not mistaken the cue list is very lengthy already. All BE+ variants included in this batch are all taken already.

  4. I was really impressed with the interior, refinement and tech of the Golf of my colleague. It really puts to shame top competitors like Civic and Mazda3. It may be bland looking but the design is timeless like the Porsche.

    1. As a Mazda 3 fan and owner, I agree. I was pleasantly surprised with the golf's quality interior and simple but elegant design.

However, the Mazda 3 is still a notch up in terms of the drive and driver involvement. It put a lot of effort in moving upmarket with continuous improvements but still lagged behind the golf's quality.

Thr Civic however is a real shame in terms of quality. It looks fine but when yku touch it, it feels really cheap, from the exterior door handles to the interior plastic quality. It is spacious though. It is also overpriced compared to the 3 and the golf.

  5. Mazda has come a long way for what it is right now but the German badge is still more desirable, albeit has more appeal. VW simply retains the German heritage of more expensive Bimmers, Mercs or Audis.
