Meet Two Extreme British Hypercars: the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro and the McLaren Senna GTR

Two British supercar makers unveiled their interpretation of what an “ultimate track-only hypercar” is. World, meet the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro and the McLaren Senna GTR Concept.

First up, the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro will weigh at just 1,000 kilograms and yet is capable of generating more than its own weight in downforce. The wider bodywork and much larger wing elements certainly contribute to this while the carbon fiber construction itself has been lightened. It also has track-specific components such as the use of polycarbonate for the windshield and side glass as well as carbon fiber on the double wishbones and an even lighter exhaust system.

The Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro will produce more than 1,100 horsepower thanks to its normally-aspirated 6.5-liter V12 engine with an integral Energy Recovery System. Through corners, it’s said to achieve up to 3G in lateral acceleration—the highest of any car derived from a fully homologated road car.

Just 25 Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro will be built and deliveries will start in 2020. Unfortunately, all examples have all been spoken for.

Next up, is the McLaren Senna GTR Concept. Extreme lightweight isn’t the focus of McLaren engineers here. Instead, it’s about making it as strong and rigid as they can. The resulting car isn’t as lightweight as the Aston Martin (the Senna GTR weighs in at 1,198 kilograms), but it’s still capable of providing 1,000 kilograms of downforce just like the Valkyrie AMR Pro.

McLaren has achieved this by widening the track, changing the fenders, and modifying the various aero components.

The McLaren Senna GTR Concept’s 4.0-liter twin turbocharged V8 will feature a bump in power (825 horsepower) and is expected to be even faster than the standard Senna in a straight line. This engine is now mated to a race-style transmission and a revised suspension set-up.

McLaren will offer 75 Senna GTRs and this is on top of the 500 examples of the road-going McLaren Sennas which have all been sold. Pricing will be around £ 1,000,000 (~P 72 million) and will be built starting in 2019.
