DOTr: You Should Get Your Plate Number by August

At a well-photographed inspection tour led by Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade and attended by Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Chairman Martin Delgra III, LTO Executive Director Romeo Vera Cruz, and other road sector officials of the DOTr, the government agency showed off their newly acquired license plate making machines.

The plate making machines are part of a contract between the government, and Trojan Computer Forms Manufacturing Corporation and JH. Tonnjes E.A.S.T. GmbH Joint Venture which the contract for the procurement of Motor Vehicle (MV) and Motorcycle (MC) license plates last December 2017 to the tune of P 978.8 million.

DOTr says that while the contract stipulated only 5 manual embossing units, the contractor added 2 more for temporary use at no additional cost. Furthermore, an additional automated embossing machine will be delivered in July and should be operational in August.

According to the DOTr, at full production, all 7 manual embossing machines should be capable of producing 22,000 plate numbers per day while the automated embossing machine should produce 12,000 plates per day.

Given the current backlog of vehicle plates reaching close to 4 million vehicle plates (that’s from 2014-2018), these new machines, at full capacity should theoretically solve the backlog in 118 calendar days.

Do you think you’ll get your plate number by August 5, 2018? Let’s see.

  1. This is great news if DOTR stay true to it. Its been 2 years since I registered my car and I still use my conduction plate.

  3. Funny. The amount of time it took to have no new plates has developed a culture of "temporary" plates that can be seen everywhere now. Its only a matter of time before they can break the trend since this is getting old now.

Sa Recto kaya rush while you wait.

Worse - yung iba wala talaga. On purpose o nasira na yung plastic plate galing dealer.
