This Model Celebrates Subaru's 60th Birthday

So how does Subaru celebrate its 60th anniversary? Is it with a limited-edition WRX STI? Maybe a Forester or a BRZ? Well, if what you had in mind was something sporty, sad to say, their anniversary model is anything but. Meet the Outback X-BREAK—Subaru’s birthday gift to itself.

A reminder to all enthusiasts that crossovers and SUVs is what made Subaru sell (and not WRXs or STIs), the Outback X-BREAK (yes, stylistically in all-caps) offers the “fashion of outdoor sports gear” with the “functional value” that the Outback’s known for. Sad, right?

Anyway, the Outback X-BREAK is differentiated with its high-gloss black grille, side mirrors, and 18-inch wheels. This is then accentuated with yellow-green accents (sorry, not cherry red this time) at the front and badging.

Inside, it combines water-repellant fabric with synthetic leather to give it that outdoorsy feel. The yellow-green accents (looking to become a Subaru trademark scheme in the near future) is also featured on the steering wheel, seats, dashboard, and doors. The instrument cluster’s blue rings have been swapped for white ones in the X-BREAK while the piano black trims are now textured.

Under the hood, this 60th anniversary model is unchanged from the regular Outback, but the EyeSight system is improved to better detect pedestrians and cyclists. Pre-Collision Throttle Management (mitigates pedal misapplication) also covers low speed driving as well. Auto Vehicle Hold (AVH) has also been added.
