Twelve-Time Subaru Car Challenge Veteran Finally Gets Top Prize

Twelve time’s the charm for Singaporean Analiza Mokhtar who bested 399 other contestants to win the 2018 Subaru Car Challenge.

The second woman to win the challenge in the contest’s 17-year run, Analiza battled changeable conditions and became the last person standing to win a brand-new Subaru worth SGD 70,800 (~ P 2,738,000). Her victory came at the cost of Thailand’s Phraitoon Sanguannam whose right hand slipped from the palm print as the contest entered the 17th minute past the 75-hour mark.

After coming so close to winning the Grand Prize multiple times in the past, disbelief and then tears of joys flowed down Analiza’s cheeks as she was told of her win. Almost immediately, she received the symbolic key from Mr. Glenn Tan, Deputy Chairman and Managing Director of Tan Chong International Limited, parent company of Motor Image, the distributor of Subaru, who was also the first one to give her a congratulatory hug.

Though visibly muted after his valiant fight over fatigue and sleep deprivation, Phraitoon’s impressive performance meant he won the title of Regional Winner, winning SGD 5,000 (~P 193,000) in the process. It also proved to be a solid anchor for Thailand to win the Country Team Winner, securing their 10-man team SGD 10,000 (~P 386,000) in the process.

Filmark “Tohoi” Bernante also received SGD 1,000 (~P 39,000) for being the last Filipino standing in the contest. He was taken out of the contest past the 57th hour mark after marshals noticed his hand curl up slightly against the palm print.
